Upstage Productions A Sydney based theatre group Upstage Productions is a Sydney based amateur theatre group. Nevertheless, it is apparent that Upstage is on a promising trajectory.

Founded in 2022, Upstage is within its formative years and is still discovering its purpose. When you watch a performance, there are three things informing your experience; the text itself, the interpretation of the director and actors, and the interpretation of the audience - you. The significance of your interpretation is that writers, directors, and actors ultimately cannot control how you will

understand the material presented on stage. It is all too easy as producers to lose faith in the audience's ability to understand or relate to material from times and settings that may be totally different to our own. The result is to overcompensate by reimagining the text to be more familiar to audiences today, at the expense of the original message. While there is a place in theatre for modern and creative reinterpretations of old texts, Upstage seeks to reinvigorate faith in the audience perspective and to allow the text to speak for itself. Upstage is entirely volunteer run. It would not be what it is today without the hard work of our generous members who donate their time and skills to create something spectacular. Though primarily made up of young adults, Upstage is welcoming to new members of any age. Whether you’re interested in acting, directing, set building, designing costumes, creating props, working with cameras and lighting, or just want to help out backstage, we would love to have you!
