And that’s a wrap on day 2 of the Open Auditions for the Manly Festival of Short Plays!

We had a record 46 people attend, a mix of regulars and newbies - thank you to everyone who came along. A brilliant array of performances and people expressing themselves. Now begins the castings… actors should hear back by early next week.

Day 1 of the Open Auditions for the Manly Festival of Short Plays 2026.

These auditions are open to anyone, whether you have acted before or not. The plays are only 10 minutes (so not too many lines to learn!) and performed at the two week festival at the Sky Theatre in Manly in November.

As many who have performed in the Festival will say - it is a wonderful experience to develop a new play with a small cast and a director. It could be the highlight of your year! The first step is to turn up to an audition.

The second and last open auditions will be held tonight (Wednesday 2 September 6:30-9pm). Prepare a 2 minute monologue, you don’t need to memorise it. See you there!

Designed & delivered especially for Manly Theatre Group by resident improv coach Anna Renzenbrink will be delivering two Improvisation Workshops in September.

In these sessions we will be exploring characters and playing with genres. It will be a casual playtime and lots of fun!

Anna Renzenbrink is a Manly local who has been volunteering with Manly Theatre Group since 2022 and who has been performing and teaching improvised theatre for over 20 years. Anna is known for her empathetic, caring and practical teaching style, she is passionate about sharing the philosophies of improv and terrible at learning lines.

Announcing the 12 plays for the Manly Festival of Short Plays 2026…

We received a bountiful 52 submissions, our panel then reviewed the anonymised scripts against a set of criteria from plot, originality, character development and stagability.

Congratulations to all the playwrights, we look forward to bringing your works to the Sky Stage in Manly for what will be our fifth Festival of Short Plays in November!

Thank you to everyone who took the time to write a play and submit to us. There were many wonderful stories and we enjoyed reading them all.

A special thank you to our panel; Eva, Bradley, Emma and writer Mike Bullen (creator of TV series Cold Feet & North Shore) for your expert eye.

Open auditions for the plays will be on 1 and 2 September. More details to come.
