Kumbali Ceramics One day in 2016, my daughter ordered clay for a school project. Not wishing to bin the clay left behind, I began lessons with her pottery teacher.

Here I am now, more teachers and more courses later. Kumbali translates as "Pottress" in native Sinhalese.

A pottery studio, especially when space is sparce , is a complicated place to navigate..
Today's a glaze day.
Many decisions to make. Many jars , bottles, buckets of colours to choose from. Applying colour in my unique style which also must be cohesive and practical. Many records to keep. Not easy while dealing with glazes and minerals. That too while not tumbling over myriad containers, work in progress, bisqued ware, etc etc. And at the end of all this, they go in the kiln for a glaze firing.
Not much else to do thereafer, than hoping and praying for the best outcomes.
Preparing for Floresta 2026, happening 31st Oct & 01st Nov, Paddington town hall, Sydney.

I was a gardener way before starting to dabble with clay. Joining a local garden club was one of the first things I did since arriving in Sydney. Met a long time friend from those days at Kumbali Ceramics stall, Mother Earth garden fair last Saturday. Thank you to everyone who visited.
