Moving to Australia? One small decision can make your first week a LOT easier: what day you arrive. ✈️🇦🇺
If you have the choice, we recommend arriving earlier in the week — ideally Monday or Tuesday.
Why?
Because your first few days are usually full of admin and deliveries.
You may need to:
• Open or visit a bank
• Set up your Australian SIM and internet
• Arrange delivery of your modem
• Have your mattress and bed delivered
• Receive furniture and appliances
• Set up utilities
• Collect keys
• Buy household essentials
• Sort transport, registrations or appointments
• Deal with any last-minute issues that come up
If you arrive late on a Friday or over the weekend, you may immediately run into reduced business hours.
Many bank branches are closed on weekends, furniture and appliance deliveries can be more limited, customer service teams may have reduced hours, and public transport can run less frequently depending on the city and route.
Arriving on a Monday or Tuesday gives you several business days to get everything organised before the weekend — and makes your first few days in Australia feel much less chaotic.
RSA TIP: If possible, have your rental secured before you arrive and pre-book major deliveries for your first few days. There is nothing fun about landing after a long-haul flight and discovering your mattress won’t arrive until next week.
