This page is dedicated to the craft we love. It will offer an opportunity for those involved to connect with one another, promote their endeavours and share their insights. It will also serve as a 'noticeboard' for those who wish to work with either myself and/or the many colleagues whose work I lovingly endorse in the arena of teaching. For those unfamiliar with my teaching work, see my bio below

Hi all,

As we hit the ground running for the final stretch of 2018, Sydney Actors Association will be offering the chance to work with us for either two or three classes prior to Xmas without our initial four class commitment. This is a chance, for those wishing to ‘trial’ our classes prior to 2019. to find out what we’re all about and why our members are kicking goals left, right and centre!
There are only limited spaces available, as most are reserved or held for our current regulars, but we’d love to put those spots remaining to a worthy cause- being YOU!

Don’t miss out!
For further info about how classes run and when spots are available, DM Sam Haft or email [email protected]

Hi all,
So I’m currently running classes every Sunday from 1-4.30pm. I keep the cost very low, as it’s a bit of a labour of love and there is no ‘locked-in’ time frame. You can do a few weeks, take time off and come back as needs be. It’s a great chance to work with like minds and we’re seeing some awesome things happening in the room. Below are some testimonials from CURRENT students. Private message me for more info!

Classes with Sam are such a fun way to end the week, and really get into what it is to act. You are met with seemingly inexhaustible knowledge, and crucially, the chance to apply it straight away’

Ever since I can remember, my love of acting has been overshadowed by the anxiety I felt in auditions & on stage. However since working with Sam, this is no longer the case. My acting is freer, I feel less inhibited and I find myself making brave, bold choices in my work. My confidence has increased tenfold and I've been reminded why I fell in love with acting in the first place. Sam's enthusiasm is contagious and it's been a joy to challenge myself each week in the nurturing environment Sam creates

Sam's workshops give me solid, practical ways to focus and get creative. His rich depth of knowledge and experience means he knows what an actor needs to show up relaxed, open and ready to play. Thoroughly recommended.

"You do not know where your decisions come from up, they pop up like hiccups. And when you make a decision, people have a great deal of anxiety when a making decision. Did I think this over long enough? Did I take enough data into consideration? If you think it through, you find you never could take enough data into consideration, the data for a decision for any given situation is infinite. What you do is you go through the motions of what you will do about this, but, worriers are people who think of all the variables beyond their control and what might happen...

Choice is the act of hesitation that we make before making a decision, it is a mental wobbling. And so we are always in a dither of doubt, as to whether we are behaving the right way or doing the right thing, and lack a certain kind of self confidence. And if you see you lack self confidence you will make mistakes through sheer fumbling, if you do have self confidence you may carry get away with doing entirely the wrong thing.

You have to regard yourself as a cloud in the flesh, because, you see, clouds never make mistakes. Did you ever see a cloud that is misshapen or a badly designed wave? No, they always do the right thing. But if you would treat yourself for awhile as a cloud or wave and realize you can't make a mistake, no matter what you do, even if you do something that seems to be totally disastrous, it will all come out in the wash somehow or other.

Then through this capacity you will develop confidence, through confidence you will be able to trust your own intuition. This is the middle way, of knowing it has nothing to do with your decision to do this or not, whether you decide you can't make a mistake or don't decide it, it is true anyway, that you are like cloud and water. And through that realization without overcompensating in the other direction, you will come to the point of where you begin to be on good terms with your own being and to be able to trust your own brain. Every path is the right path. Everything could have been anything else. And it would have just as much meaning."

There’s an argument to be made that good acting is increasingly being confused with intense acting. That’s not to take anything away from Eddie Redmayne (last year’s Oscar winner) or Leonardo DiCaprio (probably this year’s), but both roles (The Theory of Everything and The Revenant) are exalted for…
