Nia and Jess want the same thing.

Influencer Nia, wants to find her match and win the primetime reality dating hit, Match or Sn**ch. Producer Jess, wants to orchestrate Nia’s every move to secure a win for both of them. But who is controlling who? And what will the win cost both women? THE EDIT punches in on the underbelly of our guiltiest pleasure, reality television. Merging her own personal experience as a teen on reality television and her extensive interviews with reality stars from the hit podcast series “Back from Reality”, writer Gabrielle Scawthorn asks the question can we ever truly give consent, if we don’t know what we are consenting to.

Think back to the time in your life where every moment was new. Where every moment, was your first. First driving lesson, first party, first kiss, first love… first loss… Everything lay ahead, an intensely wonderful and simultaneously terrifying thought to cross our restless young minds, and full hearts.

This is I & YOU.

The Sydney premiere of a metaphysical meet-cute, this touching coming-of-age two-hander follows an unlikely pairing. Caroline, a witty chronically ill recluse, and Anthony, a headstrong jock with a sensitive side, are abruptly pulled together by a high school poetry project due the approaching morning. What follows is a series of dissecting the philosophy of Walt Whitman, the exhilarating hope and crushing nihilism inherent of young adulthood, and the gradual intertwining of two terrified young people finding a home in each other's hearts.

At age 23 Snakeface is cursed by her ex to live her life as a monster. Reclaiming the violence forced upon her, she rampages through the q***r clubs and art studios of Sydney. She has a lifetime of silenced words and stolen power to unleash.

Inspired by the myth of Medusa, SNAKEFACE explores the tight loop of creation and destruction. Rejected and tested, Snakeface claws at her relationship with s*x, sculpture, romance, and rage in a body that has never been afforded safety.

Awarded Runner Up in the Australian Theatre Festival NYC 2024 New Play Award, SNAKEFACE interrogates the beauty and brutality of moving through white Australia in a q***r Black body.

JOIN US FOR A LAUNCH OF OUR 2025 SEASON 🥳🎉

As we finalised the next instalment of 25A, we thought it was about time we got everyone back together to celebrate announcing another exciting season of independent theatre for 2025.

Selected from over 150 pitches, we’ve put together a season that has about as much as you can cram in for $2500 per project. There will be an exorcism and probably a rat or two, you will be able to get your social media and reality TV fixes, along with a visitation from an ancient deity. We’ve also got an international coming of age story with a twist mixing it with an iconic 400 year old fever dream. Familiar faces alongside debutants will take over the Downstairs Theatre across three World Premieres, one radical adaptation and an Australian classic revisited.

So grab a friend and join us in the Belvoir foyer to hear from a STUNNING lineup of artists talking about the six new shows in 2025. We’ll put a few drinks on behind the bar (and cheers to our friends who are opening Hot Tub later that evening!)

Doors at 2.30pm for a 3pm announcement.
