Upcoming Annual General Meetings in the Sydney Irish community:

• The Sydney St Patrick's Day committee is holding their AGM TONIGHT at the Irish Cultural Centre, starting at 6:30 PM. Being part of SSPD is a great opportunity to promote Irish heritage, gain hands-on event management experience and expand your network.
• The Gaelic Club will hold their AGM on Saturday, 14 November, at 1 PM. All eligible members are invited to attend and participate. Contact [email protected] for more information.

In case you missed it, the INA AGM will be held on Saturday, 8 November, at 2 PM.

All three AGMs will be held at the Irish Cultural Centre: 1/64 Devonshire St, Surry Hills.

This Friday's session will be an exciting world premiere! Four of the seven directors of the Gaelic Club will lead the music - Mel (our President, on banjo, mandolin, vocals), Jengis (Licensee and Treasurer, on fiddle) , Jas (Club Manager, on concertina) and Seán (banjo, mandolin, whistles, vocals).

Our collective title could be "Four on the Board" ? and it promises to be a rip-roaring session. All welcome - fáilte roimh chách!

A Tune Swap Prelude

Jack and Mark will be kicking off the weekend at our Friday Trad night to warm up for this Saturday’s tune swap.

Jack Conrick is a fiddle and concertina player from Canberra, Australia, who grew up in a musical family with parents who play and teach Irish music. Named after a close family friend and well-loved fiddle player of the Canberra Irish music scene, Jack Canny’s brother of the well-known Paddy Canny’s Jack began playing at a young age and carries that influence in his music today. He plays regularly at festivals and sessions across the country.

If you’ve spent time exploring tunes on The Session, chances are you’ve benefited from one of the many tune settings or discussions contributed by Dr. Dow. Behind the name is Mark Anderson, a Sydney-based concertina player who has spent decades sharing tunes, knowledge and curiosity with other musicians. With a particular love of Irish music and the traditions of Northumberland and the Borders, Dr. Dow's contribution and influence reaches far beyond the sessions he plays in.

It will be a lively one!

The Irish Film Festival is back this October in Sydney's Palace Moore Park Cinema! From gripping dramas and powerful documentaries, dark comedy and edge-of-your-seat horror, to fresh new voices shaping Irish cinema, the festival showcases its biggest program in 12 years.

In collaboration with IFF, The Gaelic Club has two double-passes to give away to the hit musical film TRAD. To be in the running, email [email protected] and tell them which films you're most excited to see in this year's program.

🎶 & Tara DISTILLERY Launch 🎶 With Benno Stephenson 🪈 and Fiona McVicar 🎻
Do you like Gin or Wh***ey? What about a taste of Poitín from Tara Distillery to go with your Friday TRAD?
With his powerful and precise Irish flute and DADGAD guitar playing, Benno Stephenson, who is also also a co-founder of Tara Distillery, has long been at the forefront of Australian Irish music.
One of the driving forces behind the acclaimed Aus-Irish band Trouble In The Kitchen, Benno has become an internationally renowned player and backer and has gigged and toured with trad legends such as Paddy Keenan, Manus McGuire and John Carty.
In 2016 he (together with partner in flute-crime Dougal Adams and fiddler Ado Barker) had the great honour of being invited to take part in Féile Strokestown, a celebration of flute music held in the heart of Co. Roscommon, playing with such flute legends as Patsy Hanly & Brian Duke.
His playing has been featured on numerous film and television projects, including as a featured soloist on the soundtrack for the major motion picture Australia starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman (and an ARIA-award winning ad for Singaporean baby formula that he doesn’t really talk about).
Benno is joined by Kejafi superstar fiddler Fiona McVicar. Fiona is a highly esteemed violin, viola and traditional fiddle performer and teacher based in the northern beaches of Sydney, Australia. 🎻

Meet our new Bar Manager- Brielle!
You may have already met Brielle who has been working behind the bar at the Gaelic Club for a number of years and now she will be stepping into the role as bar manager.
We had many highly skilled and experienced candidates apply for the position of Bar Manager.
A panel made up of Gaelic Club board members screened the candidates against the selection criteria and held interviews with the shortlisted candidates.
Brielle was a stand out candidate, and we think she is a perfect fit for the position. We are very grateful that she put her hat in the ring!
Brielle comes with just the right mix of skills and experience for the role; she is qualified in hotel management, and has extensive experience in hospitality. She is also a counsellor and works in palliative care, so we think she brings the blend of professionalism, empathy and community spirit that is the embodiment of our Club. Welcome Brielle! We know you will do a fantastic job.

The Gaelic Club is currently looking to hire casual bar staff and a Bar Manager to fill their Friday night and Saturday rosters.

If you enjoy The Gaelic Club's regular Friday night trad sessions and would love to be more involved while earning some extra money, this role is well worth considering.

On top of behind-the-bar duties, the Bar Manager role also includes extra hours for administrative and management duties, and would be approximately 16 hours/week, with optional extra hours for events.

🍀 We are looking for 1-2 casual bar staff to fill our Friday and Saturday night roster.

🍀 We are also looking for the right person to fill the role of Bar Manager.

The Bar Manager role is a low key management role that includes working behind the bar during opening and extra hours for admin and management duties. The bar manager role is approximately 16 hours per week + optional extra hours for events.
