Yes, there are security concerns within the state following today’s incident, that’d be taken seriously. However, cancelling the wrestling would reflect very badly on us, especially for visitors who have travelled long distances specifically to attend the event.

Many people already assume that Dinka Bor are really not capable of organizing a well organized and peaceful wrestling events. Cancelling this one could further reinforce that perception. Instead, we should work together with the host communities, strengthen security, and to ensure that the wrestling goes ahead peacefully and successfully like recently concluded wrestling between Malooth on both sides which ended peacefully. May peace reign in Bor Land.

Bright Stars Complete Perfect Tunis Sweep

South Sudan’s Bright Stars have completed a perfect three-game run in Tunis with a thrilling 79–75 victory over Tunisia in Group E of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 African Qualifiers.

Tunisia controlled the first two quarters, while the third quarter ended level. The Bright Stars then produced a strong comeback in the final quarter to secure a hard-fought victory.

The result leaves South Sudan second in Group E with a 7–2 record and 16 points, level on record and points with leaders Cameroon. Guinea sits third with 15 points, followed by Tunisia and Nigeria on 14 points each.

The qualification race remains open. The top two teams in each group, plus the best third-placed team, will qualify for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar.

The Bright Stars will return for the final qualifying window in February 2027, with games against Guinea, Nigeria and Tunisia.
