Construction is underway on the refreshed vision for Birtinya Central.

Located beside the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Health Precinct, the approximately 28-hectare town centre is planned to deliver up to 2,600 apartments alongside businesses, services and public spaces in one connected location.

The refreshed masterplan includes a central green spine connecting The Wave future transport hub with Lake Kawana, the cable-stay bridge and the broader Kawana Sports Precinct. It also provides more than 60 per cent more public open space compared with previous approvals, supported by new walking and cycling connections.

🏗️ Works are commencing at Birtinya Central.

Construction is commencing on the essential infrastructure and road network that will support the new town centre, including the Kawana Way intersection upgrade, town centre civil works and a new bridge over Lake Kawana.

During works, expect increased construction activity and traffic management around Innovation Parkway and Kawana Way, along with a temporary footpath diversion on Central Boulevard (see image).

The new $27 million Birtinya Pedestrian Bridge stretches 130 metres across Lake Kawana, connecting Sportsmans Parade, near Venue 114, with the future Stockland Birtinya Central Town Centre.

Whether you walk, ride, scoot, push a pram or use a mobility device, there’s now a convenient and accessible new way to cross the lake – with plenty of room for kayakers to pass underneath too. 🛶

Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli, Councillor Tim Burns and representatives from Cycling Without Age joined Stockland Development Director Matt Patullo to celebrate the opening and be among the first to make the trip across.

A new glimpse into the future of Birtinya 🌿

Stockland has secured approval for the refreshed Birtinya Central masterplan, planned to include up to 2,600 homes alongside new retail, dining, entertainment and community spaces.

The vision for the future mixed-use precinct also includes expanded parklands, a green spine and improved pedestrian and cycling connections, with future connectivity to Brisbane also expected through The Wave public transport project.

Construction Update | April

There’s plenty happening along Lake Kawana, with finishing works underway around the cable stay bridge and progress continuing across the shared pathways, seating and landscaped spaces on the walkable waterfront stage 2.
