Life got busy for a while there but I’m back to attempting an ‘almost daily’ sketching habit. No better therapy to me than losing myself in a sketchbook: no rules, no wrong answers, no pressure, no stress, just a little calm focus time and a pat on the back for making time to show up for it. 🥰

This is Violet. Violet was a frontline working dog, so a very special dog, and I know she’s dearly missed. It was a pleasure to spend time on her portrait and I hope it helps her handler to remember her time with Violet. 🐾💜

Millie the Cat. Millie’s portrait was commissioned for a Mothers’ day gift - such a thoughtful gift that includes their beloved fur-babies in their day as well - I love that! And what a little cutie patootie! 💕

Abbey the Cat, coloured pencil portrait. This one was for family recently, so she’s extra close to my heart. A beautiful kitty to draw, so many colours and details to capture, both a challenge and a thrill. 🥰

This beautiful kitty is Abbey, adopted as an adult cat and loved dearly. I love hearing when older cats get rescued and given a loving home. 🥰 This one was requested by family so I felt so grateful to be part of such a thoughtful gift for such lovely people. 💕

Pushing myself out of my comfort zones lately to practice things I don’t practice enough: painting from life, a complicated subject to draw, and more practice with gouache. Didn’t have many expectations, but I actually love it! 🥰 🎨

I’ve made it to day 3 of small daily paintings. My partner’s comment: “Olive three of those…” 😂 Prioritising consistency and learning over having a good painting, to establish a painting habit and be less ‘afraid’ of the practice ones - not every painting has to be good, but to get to a good one, you need to practice a lot. And then maybe some more. 😅🎨

Finished the little sketchbook fish today. Seems sad to see a goldfish in a glass (I think the reference was only AI, though, not actually a poor little goldie with no swimming room! 😬) but for some reason I imagined this little character as a happy travelling fish, impossibly taking himself and his glass on little adventures around the globe.. 🐠 Pretty sure I live in a children’s book, sometimes.
