Last week SCCA was honoured to support the first stage of creative development for R|Artist Residency: Think Big (a collaboration with Creative Ecologies at UniSC) and artists Ashley Saltner Jnr (Wulgurukaba) and Lyndon Davis (Kabi Kabi) with musician Cameron Deyell.

This important first stage supports an extraordinary multi-year creative journey to conceptualise a large-scale sunrise ritual to be performed simultaneously across the Great Barrier Reef, from north to south. Through cultural exchange and time on Country, Ashley and Lyndon will draw on their individual explorations of sunrise — its meaning, its feeling, its deep connection to sea and sky — to creatively experiment with story, song, movement and sound, centred on care for ocean ecologies.

The R|Artist Residency: Think Big invites regional artists residing in areas hosting Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games event to imagine bold, large-scale works that share their regions stories with national and international audiences. Stay tuned for more information about the project performance at the end of the month.

R|Artist Residency: Think Big is presented by SCCA through The Refinery in partnership with the Creative Ecologies Research Cluster at UniSC and supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland.
