Member of the Month! ✨

This month we're celebrating , one of the longest-standing members of our studio family.

Over the years, she’s developed a style that is completely her own. Beautiful thrown forms, generous curves, and pieces that feel just as good to hold as they do to look at. Lately she’s also been exploring oxides and texture, stepping outside her comfort zone and creating some really stunning work along the way.

One of our favourite things about Jordyn’s pottery is how recognisable it is. You can spot one of her pieces across the studio and know exactly who made it. That kind of signature style only comes from years of showing up, practising, and refining your craft.

Why do potters use mirrors? 🪞

One of the easiest ways to improve your throwing is to stop looking only at the top of your piece.

When we're working on the wheel, it's natural to spend most of our time looking down at the clay. The problem is, you're only seeing one angle.

A mirror gives you a completely different perspective. You can step back, see the profile taking shape, check your proportions, and make small adjustments before they become big ones.

Part 2 of glazing your very first wheel-thrown piece 🤍

In the last video we underglazed our bowl, and now we’re adding a clear glaze before its final firing.

This stage is all about balance. Too thin and the piece can feel dry. Too thick and the glaze can run in the kiln. We’re looking for that nice even coat that melts into a smooth glassy surface after firing.

We also go over a few little glazing tips that make a huge difference, like fixing missed spots, avoiding drips, and making sure the base of your piece is completely free from glaze before it heads into the kiln ✨
