🌟 Djinda Kaatijin — What a Season! 🌟

Last Friday, our incredible "Djinda Kaatijin" team delivered their final performance of the 2026 season — bringing an amazing 13-week tour to a close!

Over the season, the team delivered an incredible 139 performances, sharing this special story with young audiences across Western Australia. ❤️

From Metro Schools Touring to our NAIDOC and Regional Schools Touring, the team travelled far and wide, connecting with students and communities through story, culture and performance.

We are incredibly proud and grateful for the passion, dedication and hard work that made this season such a success.

What a wonderful night of recognition for two incredible First Nations artists! ❤️🖤💛

A huge congratulations to Deborah Mailman on becoming the first Indigenous inductee into the Logies Hall of Fame, an extraordinary and richly deserved honour celebrating her remarkable contribution to Australian screen and stage. 🌟

We’re especially proud to celebrate Deborah’s connection to Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company through "The 7 Stages of Grieving" the landmark play she co-wrote with Wesley Enoch. Yirra Yaakin’s recent production has brought this powerful work to a new generation, continuing its legacy of truth-telling, resilience and Aboriginal storytelling.

And another huge congratulations to Lila McGuire on winning the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent! 🎉 Lila is a valued part of the Yirra Yaakin family and audiences will remember her wonderful performance in our production of "Panawathi Girl".

From the stage to the screen, it’s wonderful to see First Nations talent being recognised and celebrated at this level. We couldn’t be prouder of Deborah and Lila and the incredible contribution they continue to make to Australian storytelling. ❤️🖤💛

Ngalaka Daa means “our tongue” in Noongar. Driven by the sharing of Noongar language and culture, the program provides young people between the ages of 14 - 22 with the opportunity to receive intensive development in theatre making, performance and language skills at a professional level ✨

We were honoured to receive a wonderful Welcome to Country with Aunty Phillis and Charmaine Councillor, alongside the Yirra Yaakin team and BREC staff. We are so grateful for the warm welcome and for helping us begin this regional journey in such a meaningful way.
