Tyrown Waigana: Walking Snake
Exhibition Opens 6pm, Thursday 6 August 2026

'Walking Snake' explores identity, expectation and belonging. This compelling exhibition challenges the unrealistic standards often imposed on Indigenous people. It asks an important question: why should anyone have to be extraordinary simply to be seen as worthy?

We are delighted to see celebrated Torres Strait Islander artist Brian Robinson receiving national attention for his major exhibition Multiverse at Newcastle Art Gallery.

Spanning more than a decade of practice, Multiverse showcases Robinson's richly detailed visual worlds, where Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge intersects with mythology, history, science fiction, pop culture and contemporary storytelling. The exhibition features monumental prints, sculptures and immersive installations, highlighting the scale, imagination and technical mastery that have made Robinson one of Australia's most distinctive contemporary artists.

As a gallery proud to represent Brian's work, we congratulate him on this significant exhibition, which is being celebrated as the largest survey of his practice to date and a major highlight of Newcastle Art Gallery's 2026 exhibition program.

Brian Robinson: Multiverse is on view at Newcastle Art Gallery until 30 August 2026.

Australian Broadcasting Corporation: Shrek, Captain Cook and the stars: Welcome to Brian Robinson's multiverse.

Tyrown Waigana: Walking Snake
Exhibition Opens 6pm, Thursday 6 August 2026

Mossenson Galleries is proud to highlight the work of Tyrown Waigana, an acclaimed multidisciplinary artist and designer with Wandandi Noongar and Ait Koedal heritage. His talent spans graphic design, illustration, painting, animation and sculpture.

Walking Snake is a collection of powerful works that explore the unrealistic and ever-shifting expectations often placed on Indigenous people in Australia. Reflecting on the pressure to be exceptional in order to be accepted, it challenges the notion that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people must continually prove their worth, offering a thought-provoking commentary on identity, representation and belonging.

As we continue our revisit of this exhibition ten years on, we're reminded of the power of art to preserve a moment in time while inviting new conversations with every viewing.

A decade ago, M_Mixer brought together the creative worlds of Matthew Clarke and Martin Edge in an exhibition that celebrated observation, experimentation and a distinctly Australian sense of place.

Looking back, the works still feel as fresh and engaging as they did in 2016, capturing moments, landscapes and perspectives that continue to resonate today.

As conversations continue around the future of Cottesloe Beach foreshore developments, we're taking a moment to look back.

'Cottesloe Beach' by Martin Edge captures one of Western Australia's most iconic coastal views as it appeared a decade ago. Featured in the 2016 M_Mixer exhibition alongside works by Matthew Clarke, the painting offers a snapshot in time of a landscape that continues to evolve.

As change looms on the horizon, it will be fascinating to see how artists document and interpret the next chapter of this much-loved coastline.

Ten years ago, Mossenson Galleries remembers a moment of joyful collision.

In 2016, M_MIXER brought together two young artists: Matthew Clarke and Martin Edge , for a shared exhibition that captured something raw, generous, and full of energy.

We still think about how it began – not as a grand concept, but as a connection sparked across distance. A chance viewing, an email sent, a conversation that unfolded into an exhibition. Both artists travelled to Perth for the opening, meeting in person for the first time.

Looking back now, M_Mixer sits as one of those early moments where we witnessed how connection between artists can generate its own unexpected language–lively, generous, and entirely its own.

Brian Robinson’s vinyl cut titled Zugubal: The winds and the tides set the pace (2022) reflects the rich storytelling traditions that underpin his distinctive artistic practice. Born on Waiben (Thursday Island) and now based in Cairns, Robinson draws on his Torres Strait Islander, Wuthathi and Malay heritage to create intricate worlds where culture, mythology and imagination converge.

Featured in Brian Robinson: Multiverse at Newcastle Art Gallery, this striking work is part of the artist’s largest solo exhibition to date.
