trading as Powderkeg Players is a non-professional group of players based in the western suburbs of Victoria, Australia, just 15 mins out of Melbourne. We rehearse and perform at Dempster Park Hall, Phoenix Street, Sunshine. We're a friendly bunch of people and encourage anybody who wants a go at getting up on stage to come and audition. Or perhaps you might want to help out in the front or back a

nd sometimes even in the middle (apart from audience members there's sound & lighting). We perform different styles of plays each year be it drama, comedy or pantomime and everything in-between and are members of the Victorian Drama League

MEET JARROD (ASST. DIRECTOR / MARKETING)

Originally from Boston, Jarrod Hawn recently moved to Melbourne and made his Australian theatre debut last year in Essendon Theatre Company’s production of ‘Significant Other’, followed by Midsumma Festival’s 2026 production of ‘Rent’ at St. Michael’s. Across the States, as well as London, he has performed in productions including ‘The Laramie Project’, ‘Bent’, ‘Grease’, ‘The Cluedo Club Killings’, ‘Trojan Women’, ‘Bang Bang You’re Dead’, ‘A Chorus Line’, ‘Cabaret’, and ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. His directorial credits include ‘Suburbia’, ‘The Tempest’ and ‘Snoopy’. Jarrod would like to thank the incredible cast and crew of ‘Closer’ for bringing one of his favourite plays to life.

MEET DEL (DIRECTOR)

Del Jordan ( Del Jordan ) is a Melbourne-based director and actor with over twenty years’ experience in independent and community theatre, performing with companies including Melbourne Writers Theatre, Eltham Little Theatre, Strathmore Theatre Company, Essendon Theatre Company and Williamstown Little Theatre. Usually gracing the stage, credits include Catherine in ‘The Memory of Water’, Miss Scarlet in ‘Clue’, and Brooke Daniels in ‘Popcorn’. She first encountered ‘Closer’ as a student at La Trobe University in 2011, playing Anna. The play stayed with her, and when the chance to direct it arose, she leapt at it. Del has loved every second of bringing Marber’s incisive text to life, and thanks her cast and crew for making this vision possible.

PATRICK MARBER - AUTHOR

Born in London 1964, Patrick Marber earned an English degree from Wadham College, Oxford, and initially started his career as a stand-up comedian. He transitioned to writing and acting in television, collaborating heavily with figures like Steve Coogan and Armando Iannucci to co-create and perform in cult-classic comedies such as ‘Knowing Me, Knowing You...’. In 1995, Marber made his theatrical breakthrough with his directorial debut, ‘Dealer’s Choice’, which premiered at the Royal National Theatre and won the Evening Standard Award for Best Comedy. He followed this up in 1997 with ‘Closer’, a raw and critically-acclaimed drama that won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Play. It was later adapted into a 2004 Hollywood film directed by Mike Nichols, for which Marber earned a BAFTA nomination. In 2002, he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
