Shakti Spirit doesn't just blend cultures — it ignites them. This acclaimed Indian jazz ensemble brings their spellbinding fusion of Indian classical vocals, South Indian percussion, and searing guitar–saxophone interplay to the Blue Mountains for the very first time.

Celebrating female creativity through the pure joy of improvisation, their music draws on original works by Nadhamuni, Gayatri Bharat, and Sandy Evans, as well as the timeless poetry of mystic saints. Expect something deeply felt, wildly alive, and utterly unlike anything else.

/ Eishan Ensemble to Perform in Springwood with New Album Northern Rhapsody tomorrow night /
The internationally acclaimed Eishan Ensemble will bring its distinctive blend of Persian classical music and contemporary jazz to the Springwood Presbyterian Church Hall on Saturday, 20 September 2025, as part of the Live at the Village concert series. [Doors 7:30 pm, Show starts 8:00 pm]

Led by Iranian-born tar player and composer Hamed Sadeghi, the quartet has spent the past decade carving a unique place in Australia’s music scene. Sadeghi arrived in Sydney 12 years ago with little more than his tar, a traditional Persian string instrument, and has since become a leading voice in cross-cultural music-making.

Eishan Ensemble is marking its 10th anniversary with a national tour showcasing their new album, Northern Rhapsody. Inspired by the Australian landscape, the album explores themes of identity, belonging, and cultural dialogue. The current line-up features Michael Avgenicos (alto saxophone), Max Alduca (double bass) and Adem Yilmaz (percussion).

Critics have praised the group’s evocative and immersive style. As one review noted:

“On a day when mobs demonstrated against immigration, particularly the non-white variety, Hamed Sadeghi offered the perfect riposte. Not that this was his intention: he merely works towards refining his gentle art. But for a decade he’s enriched Australian music, bringing Iran’s ancient culture to our ears via his reflective and evocative compositions, his assemblages of musicians and his own playing on the Persian tar.”

The ensemble’s sound has been described as music you “bathe in” rather than simply listen to, with melodies that float over rhythmic textures and an unusual blend of tar and saxophone producing a singular, mesmerising timbre.

Currently touted as one of Australia's most exciting jazz projects, experience an exhilarating night of contemporary jazz led by two of Australia’s most acclaimed saxophonists and composers, Sandy Evans and Andrew Robson, this Saturday Night, 9 August. Evans’ powerful tenor sound and soaring soprano melodies, combined with Robson’s effortless sense of groove and an uncanny instinct for melodic lyricism, create a beautiful and engaging musical dialogue. As The Sydney Morning Herald notes, “Evans has been among the country’s preeminent tenor and soprano players for 40 years, while Robson has been a scalding and imaginative alto player for a decade less.” Backed by a powerhouse rhythm section, Brett Hirst on bass and Hamish Stuart on drums, this Live at the Village promises not to disappoint!
