⭐ APSA FORUM SESSION SPOTLIGHT | SLATE & FATE ⭐

Could you keep a feature film alive when the pressure is on? 🎬

On Thursday 29 October, the Asia Pacific Screen Forum puts delegates in the hot seat with Slate & Fate, an interactive industry simulation where teams will take control of a fictional Asia Pacific feature and navigate the real-world challenges that can make or break a film.

From financing and production to legal and market hurdles, teams will need to think on their feet, make critical decisions and work together to keep their project moving before pitching their film to a live greenlight panel of some of the industry's most experienced producers.

And what a panel to pitch to!

🎤 Bianca Balbuena-Liew – Award-winning Filipino producer, Co-Founder of Epicmedia Productions and Chair of the 2026 APSA Youth, Animation & Documentary International Jury. Bianca is a leading voice in independent Asian cinema, with extensive experience developing and producing internationally recognised films.

🎤 Stefano Centini – International producer and Founder of VOLOS FILMS 飛望影像有限公司, with acclaimed credits including Stranger Eyes and Magellan. A member of the 2026 APSA International Jury, Stefano brings firsthand experience navigating international co-productions, financing and global film markets.

🎤 Chloe Rickard – Director, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Producer at Jungle Entertainment, the Australian production company behind acclaimed series including Mr Inbetween, No Activity and Netflix's My Brilliant Career. Chloe brings invaluable experience in developing and delivering major screen productions.

Guiding the experience is moderator Julie Eckersley, Executive Director, Screen Content at Screen Queensland, whose industry expertise will help teams navigate the challenges and unpack the decisions made along the way.

The session will finish with a debrief exploring what worked, what didn't and why, giving delegates practical lessons they can take into their own projects.

How do stories deeply rooted in culture, identity and personal experience connect with audiences around the world? 🌏🎬

Some of the most powerful films begin with stories that are deeply personal and culturally specific, yet have the ability to resonate with audiences far beyond the communities they represent.

At the Asia Pacific Screen Forum, Home is Where the Heart is. The World is Where it Lands brings together three filmmakers whose work demonstrates the power of authentic storytelling and the international reach of local perspectives.

Moderating the discussion is Leanne Tonkes, award-winning Australian producer and founder of Sense & Centsability. With more than two decades of international screen industry experience and producing credits including My Melbourne, The Second and My Mistress, Leanne is a passionate advocate for diverse voices and stories that connect with audiences around the world.

Joining the panel are:

🎬 Rachel Maxine Anderson (Australia) – Director and screenwriter behind the online series INA, bringing her experience in creating stories grounded in cultural identity and personal perspectives.

🎬 Anoop Lokkur (Australia) – Director, producer and screenwriter of Don't Tell Mother, nominated for Best Youth Film at the 2026 Asia Pacific Screen Awards. Anoop brings firsthand experience of taking culturally distinctive storytelling to the international stage.

🎬 Isabelle Kalandar (Tajikistan) – Director, producer and screenwriter of Another Birth, recognised with the 2026 APSA Cultural Diversity Award. Her work demonstrates how stories rooted in particular communities can find recognition and meaning across borders.

⭐ APSA FORUM SESSION SPOTLIGHT | SUSTAINABLE SCREEN INDUSTRIES ⭐

How can the screen industry embrace more sustainable production practices while building a stronger, more resilient future? 🌏🎬
Sustainable filmmaking isn't just about reducing environmental impact. It's also about making productions smarter, more resource-efficient and cost-effective.

Opening day of the Asia Pacific Screen Forum brings together four experienced industry professionals for Sustainable Screen Industries, exploring how practical sustainable and circular solutions can reduce costs, minimise waste, meet global environmental targets and improve production outcomes.

Moderating the conversation is Linda Nordin, Circular Economy Specialist at global engineering and consulting firm SMEC, bringing expertise in resource efficiency and circular economy practices.

At the heart of the panel will be a case study of Netflix's My Brilliant Career, presented by Chloe Rickard, Executive Producer of the series and Chief Operating Officer and Executive Producer at Jungle Entertainment. With Jungle Entertainment behind acclaimed Australian series including Mr Inbetween and No Activity, Chloe will draw on her experience producing My Brilliant Career to explore how sustainable practices can be implemented in real-world screen production.

Also joining the panel is Sarah Tosone, an environmental sustainability consultant whose impressive credits include major Hollywood productions such as Disney's Mulan, Marvel Studios' Thor: Ragnarok and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Sarah brings extensive experience implementing sustainable practices across international film productions.

Rounding out the panel is Maree Cochrane, Executive Director of Sustainable Screens Australia (SSA). With a decade of screen production experience and another decade working in systems and behaviour change, Maree leads strategic partnerships with major broadcasters, streamers and content producers including Netflix, SBS On Demand, BBC Studios, Stan. and ITV. She also manages SSA's international partnership with BAFTA Albert, bringing valuable insights into how industry-wide collaboration can drive meaningful environmental change.

Regional Reels: Inside a Cross-Border Collaboration moves beyond the conventional panel to hear directly from Regional Reels filmmakers about the realities of developing projects across borders.

Moderated by Daniel Hirsch from Griffith Film School the session will explore what worked, what didn’t, how filmmakers navigated cultural differences and built creative relationships, and what their projects need to move forward.

Regional Reels filmmakers will share their experiences and present their projects, followed by an audience discussion exploring the realities of international collaboration.

Join acclaimed Australian cinematographer and 2026 APSA International Jury President Mandy Walker AM, ASC, ACS for a special screening of Tracks as part of the Asia Pacific Screen Forum.

Based on Robyn Davidson’s remarkable journey across the Australian desert, Tracks showcases Mandy’s stunning cinematography, which earned her the Australian Cinematographers Society - Queensland’s prestigious Gold Award for Best Cinematography in 2014.

Mandy will introduce the screening before joining her long-time collaborator and Bazmark Managing Director Schuyler Weiss for an in-conversation Masterclass, exploring her craft, career and experiences working across some of the world’s most acclaimed films.
