Theatre Workshop Tuesdays just got a whole lot bigger. 🎭

This is Tuesdays at The Couch. A weekly theatre workshop led by Artistic Director Roman Berry, bringing together international students through the power of body - memory, play and storytelling. It’s all about our Embodied Cultural Safety Practice - in our approach to Theatre For All! Thank you also to our students this evening who took risks. ⭐️🙏👏

We are honoured to be partnered with The Couch International Student Centre, a Salvation Army Project 614 initiative, proudly supported by the City of Melbourne. A space built on welcome, community, and belonging.

A huge thank you to Elle and the incredible team at The Couch for making this possible every single week. Your support means everything. 🙏

Tonight was just emotive and beautiful!

The work of one is the work of many.

Community arts is where belonging begins: in neighbourhoods, classrooms, migrant communities, regional towns & everyday spaces where CREATIVITY is a LIFELINE, NOT a LUXURY.

As the Revive National Cultural Policy goes under review, we’re asking our community to add their voice.

CACD (Community Arts and Cultural Development) is not a minor player. It’s the foundation of cultural life in Australia and it deserves real recognition and real investment. 🎭 Submissions close 24 May.

Let’s make sure community, connection, and belonging stay at the centre of Australia’s cultural future.

Another big night at The Couch - experimenting with Tinikling (Filipino Folk Dance Movements), devising new monologues, celebrating mother tongue and building a creative community that feels like home.

Led by AD Roman Berry, through Embodied Cultural Safety Practice (ECSP), it’s always about theatre for all.

At Divergent Theatre Collective our mission has always been simple.

Theatre For All. Always.

No barriers to language. All abilities. Every story. Every community.

This is exactly what Community Arts and Cultural Development does across Australia and right now it is not explicitly recognised in the REVIVE policy. That is the gap we are asking government to close.

Community arts is not a nice to have. It is how many Australians first discover that their story matters. It reaches where mainstream arts does not. It builds belonging where there was none.

We know we are not alone in this work. Across this country there are artists, facilitators, community workers and organisations quietly holding communities together through creative practice. This is for all of them too. 🎭✊🏽

We stand with in calling for CACD to be formally recognised, properly funded and given room to grow.

Another powerful session at ! Huge thanks to our AD, Roman Berry, for guiding the room with care and clarity. Our students were fully engaged, working through monologues, exploring objects, body memory, safety, release and personal stories. Deep gratitude to and and to every volunteer who shows up and holds space with us. Your presence makes this work possible. We keep moving forward. 🙏

Tonight at The Couch, we’re exploring emotive monologues. One of the most powerful ways our community has expressed creativity and connection. These moments from past Kasaysayan showcases remind us how brave our students are when they step forward and share something true.

Tonight’s session is part of the Divergent Theatre Collective workshop series, led by Artistic Director Roman Berry, in partnership with The Couch International Student Centre (a Salvation Army Project 614 initiative), proudly supported by the City of Melbourne.

We’re here every Tuesday. Open, welcoming and ready for anyone who wants to explore creativity, storytelling and community.

Also, stay tuned… a new initiative is on the way to nurture emerging theatre makers and future community leaders.
