With such incredible interest, support and response from our growing audience, the launch of RME’s first live stage comedy is looking like being a sensational event. And with an equally highly entertaining cast of actors, it’s equally as wonderful to be able to give you all some of the back story on how this play came to be about in the first place.

Written by Theatre impresario, Circus world record holder, former owner of the Apollo Theatre, and author of numerous books, Roy Maloy - Author brings us his newest work in the form of a comedy play.

Written and produced to be faithful to the style of the classic 1970s BBCTV comedies including “Yes Minister” and “Fawlty Towers” the performance delivers all the same kinds of pithy satire we know and love.

“The performance is designed to be a little bit away from what you think it will be, while being easy to enjoy. There is such a need for educated comedy, and being able to present a comedy like this in an immersive theatre environment like the Geelong Gaol Museum, is truly exciting. The audience will be seated in the actual cell block of the prison, and the actors perform their work from the prison cells that were in active use up until the 1990’s.”

Cast Announcement

Continuing on with our cast announcements for the upcoming launch of “Shut Your Trap”, with only weeks to go,, we are thrilled to introduce you to our principal actor, and executive producer, Beth Gore!

After growing up on the stage, Beth moved across the field to acting for the screen in Film and TV; even travelling across the Pond to study in Los Angeles in 2019 - peaking an interest in working behind the scenes as a comedy writer and in Post Production. They had plans to return to study Production in Vancouver before the dreaded coronavirus of 2020 took over the world and instead chose to study right here in Melbourne.

Finally in their final year of a Bachelors in Film and Television Production, Beth has struck up a healthy balance between acting and production work - living it up like Hannah Montana - with the Best of Both Worlds. They are currently also working at The Geelong Gaol as a Ghost Tour Guide and assisting with Social Media Content Creation.

Following on from their Directorial Debut at the end of 2021 for their comedic short film “Couples Counselling”, and the first season of their new comedy show “In Reel Life” to start filming in early November, Beth is excited to be acting in part of our new comedy production written and directed by Roy Maloy, and excited to be assisting Roy on the production side of the project as well.

Beth is represented by and will prove to be one of Australia’s rising stars in the industry.

Artist Announcement

With under six weeks remaining until the opening of “Shut Your Trap”, we are thrilled to announce the artists who will make up our incredible cast! And, as it’s a comedy play, we are so lucky to have veteran stand up comedian, Shane Gordon on board in the role of Nichols. In the performance Nichols is a character with diverse qualities and traits, relying heavily on the expertise and timing of the actor. And we are sure that Shane can do justice to this role.

How’s this?

Shane’s experience includes a large, vast and varied portfolio of achievements including appearances on the children’s l tv series “Ridgey Didge” in the 80’s. Making a true mark on the comedy circuit in 2019 where he began his standup pursuits, Shane was contracted to appear as a headline artist at The Apollo Theatre.

As we prepare for the launch of “Shut Your Trap” on November 25, we’ve been asked by a couple of media outlets where the theatre space is located in the Geelong Gaol Museum in . Possibly the most exciting big about this production is the fact that the performance will take place in the actual prison! Audiences will be treated to an immersive theatre experience, as a fly on the wall, as the play happens in the normal contexts of an actual maximum security prison! ARTIST ANNOUNCEMENT!!

As we head toward the opening of RME’s new play, “Shut Your Trap”, it’s time to announce our cast! Playing the role of Flannigan, a fast talking, well practiced urban criminal, Josh Hayes is a well seasoned actor who will make a magnificent addition to the cast!

Josh has been an extremely vivid member of the Melbourne film & stage scene since 2016. He has appeared in 20 feature films, numerous short films, TV Ads and live theatre productions, not to mention TV, web & music videos.

On the live theatre scene, Josh has performed The Crucible twice, classics including Romeo & Juliet and contemporary works including Coriolanus for the Hartwell Players. His catalogue of previous plays and pantomimes is extensive and we are thrilled to have a local Geelong boy bringing such an incredible layer of experience and skill to the performance!
