‘Fly away’… a beautiful peace offering by singer-songwriter Pete Lyrebird. It is an original interpretation of ‘Over the rainbow’. Performance took place past Saturday at Call to Peace sculpture. Pete sang many other songs and these will be shared here soon too. All the honking was for peace too, i’m sure! Thank you for the amazing contribution Pete!!

At 2pm, you are invited to a ‘meditation’ on peace by amazing PETE REID

Pete Lyrebird is the musical moniker for Naarm/Melbourne based and Lutruwita/Tasmanian born singer-songwriter and actor-maker Pete Reid. He’s an observer of small things, overlooked moments, brittle and broken people, strange phenomena and the murkier edges of the heart. Performed with his distinctive baritone, the music of Pete Lyrebird conjures a breed of alt’ folk, broadcast from its own surreal and idiosyncratic universe. Pete’s set will be presented as a public rehearsal toward some upcoming recordings and he may just be joined by a special guest.

🎶 SINGING FOR PEACE
⏰ Saturday 7 May, 1–3pm
📍 At CALL to PEACE monument or if it rains at The Clarendon Centre shopping plaza in front of Coles on the corner or Clarendon and Coventry

Jeannie Marsh and Nancy Atkin (Climate Choir Melbourne), Michael Roper (Victorian Trade Union Choir), and Emily Hayes (Brunswick Rogues choir) are leading a singalong of simple Peace Songs! You can also share your own peace songs, come along and sing or listen and enjoy!

Raising our voices to call for peace has a long and powerful history, and the brutal invasion of Ukraine has made this mission more urgent than ever. Join us to sing Peace Songs as part of the outdoor art installation “Call to Peace” at the corner of Clarendon and Coventry Streets in South Melbourne. In case of rain this event will not be cancelled and we will still be gathering and singing at The Clarendon Centre next door which is a shopping plaza where Coles is located too.
