Student Band Night

Student Band Night An exciting event series of student collaborations between Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and Queensland College of Art.

A brand new music series from the city’s hottest emerging jazz talent kicks off this May. Running each Thursday night from 7.30pm – 9.30pm in South Bank, students from the famed jazz department at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University will deliver free performances. The student driven initiative is set to create a new hub for musicians and artists to merge their talents and showcase th

eir skills to local audiences, according to Head of Jazz, Steve Newcomb.

“This is the perfect opportunity for music students to combine their talents and passion with the creative practice of students from the Queensland College of Art and Griffith Film School,” he says.

“This cross-pollination of creative forces will showcase the incredible talent being nurtured on home soil and better yet, it’s in the ideal environment of a laidback lounge.”

“We’ve been proud to witness our previous students such as Katie Noonan, Megan Washington, Kristen Berardi and Elly Hoyt go on to such great heights and it’s an honour to now present the latest crop of developing artists.”

The series of four concerts, with an additional four to follow later in the year, will combine music performance with visual art displays from students of the Queensland College of Art and exhibitions from the Griffith Film School. Market stalls on the terrace will also feature student-made jewellery, graphic art, prints, small objects and original music CDs.
