Hope everyone had a great Christmas!
I recently had the pleasure of painting this beautiful baby after the purchaser had a bad experience with another artist.
This highlighted a few things for me as an artist about setting boundaries and knowing your limits, but also a few things I would like to share for those wishing to purchase a painting - from any artist.
1. Know what you want and explain it clearly. Ask the artist if they can confidently complete the work. Sometimes there will be challenging pieces and you will have to come to an agreement that if a piece isn't working out the way you or the artist want it to that you can both walk away. NB: you may still have to pay for supplies/time in the form of a deposit, so make sure you know about these too.
2. Try to supply the artist with the best possible photos you can. Just because a photo is cute doesn't mean it is something that someone can use to paint from. Talk to the artist about what type of photos they need - be willing and ready to supply a few if required. If you are unable to get more photos for whatever reason, refer to number 1. Some artists may even offer to take photos for you.
3. Keep in contact with and build a relationship with your artist. They should also want to keep in contact with you. If they don't this could be a red flag.
Hope this serves as useful when/if you ever want to get a painting/artwork of your fur babies.
