Another great opening event celebrating Scape #2 - a salon exhibition by & Gallery at The Lennox, Richmond.

The group show continues until 28 June @ 208 Lennox St, Richmond. Open Tues-Sat, 11am-4pm

Following Scape #1 at our Federation Square gallery in 2022, Scape #2 begins with a simple question: Do you remember when you first noticed a horizon?

As we grow, our perspective expands beyond what is immediately before us, drawing our attention to the landscapes that shape our lives. More than a depiction of geography, landscape art explores ideas of place, memory, identity, and our relationship with the environment.

From ancient traditions to contemporary practice, artists have used landscape to interpret and reimagine the world around them. Today, as our connection to the natural environment becomes increasingly fragile, landscape art encourages us to look closely, pay attention, and reconsider what might otherwise go unnoticed.

The artists in Scape #2 continue this evolving tradition through diverse approaches and perspectives, inviting us to see both familiar and unexpected landscapes in new ways.

Curatorial Assistant: Matisse Stynes

A glimpse into Wednesday night’s opening of Siobhan Kelley’s solo exhibition ‘Melange’.

Visit the show until 28 June @ 208 Lennox St Richmond. Open Tues-Sat, 11am-4pm.

“My paintings, based on architectural forms, explore bold colour and geometric shapes.
Each painting begins with a basic concept of colour and feature, continuing to emerge
from the canvas as the painting develops, dictating what is required. This results in
trialling a variety of colour combinations and designs.

This series of acrylic paintings on canvas began when walking through Quarantine
Station in Portsea and I noticed the corner of an old hospital building. This chance
sighting became the catalyst for a new direction in my work. I continued to return to
Quarantine, fascinated by the hospitals and their staircases. More recently my interest
in architecture has expanded to include Melbourne townhouses and laneways, and I
continue to imagine buildings and shadows in bright pink and lime green.

The hand sewn paintings began in the early stages of the Covid lockdowns, before
we were seriously locked down. My children and I walked the beaches and streets
of Tootgarook, where I live, and one derelict boatshed caught my attention. I began
sewing strips of canvas to replicate the weather board that boatsheds and older beach houses are made from.

Although both of my painting styles are very different in ex*****on and style, they
both draw their inspiration from building materials and architectural designs that
have unexpectedly caught my attention while I have been walking through areas that
are familiar to me. Melange is a French noun that translates to a mixture, blend, or
medley. It often refers to elements that are very different from one another. I found it
the perfect word to describe the paintings in this exhibition that are both very different
from one another, and yet all use the same subject matter as inspiration.” - Siobhan Kelley
