More about the residency
Daniel Breda is the first recipient of the Shellharbour City Council Incubator Artist Residency, a 4 week program between August 21st - September 18th at The Imaginarium in Shellharbour Village.
During the residency Breda will expand his consistently developing inquiry into landscape painting in contemporary abstraction. The program will pivot his focus to the specific landscape surrounding Shellharbour, highlighting the architectural developments of the Shellharbour Marina, and its relationship to the Bass point reserve and Marine Biology. Breda will develop a series of paintings, informed by this, unified with the current studies of marine life at Bass Point; specifically the dietary research of Centrostephanus rodgersii (black sea urchin) to develop a monochromatic body of work addressing natural and mechanical forms.
The residency will see Breda partner with Marine Scientist, field researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle, Jeremy Day. Mr Day is an evidence-based conservationist and sustainability advocate, who’s research focuses on urchin predators and the nature of the urchin barren habitats in NSW.
