🔼 Circus! Live, responsive music! Puppetry! Dragons and pixies, oh my! Adventure with us on the journey of self-discovery for a gentle young dragon.

Rua is not like the other dragons. They’ve always been a clumsy flier, been bad at hunting sheep, and haven't had the normal interest in gold. The other dragons tell Rua that it's weird that they don't burn down any villages or capture any princesses, but Rua just doesn’t see the point. When adventurers come and steal gentle Rua's dearest treasures, books and stuffed animals, it inspires them to leave their home on a path of self-discovery.

On this journey, their paths lead them to meet wondrous creatures, the Moon Pixies and the Moon Goddess, who teach them new ways to move, be, and exist in the world, helping them change in more ways than Rua ever thought possible.

A new dragon, they carry their lessons home with the confidence to be themself.

RUA AND THE MOON runs over the second weekend of Backbone Festival, October 15 - 17.

🔼 Suzie has always been the breaker-upper. The one with the exit strategy. The ending-it speech nailed to a T. Until now.

Because tonight, Suzie’s been dumped. And she’s not taking it well.

Armed with a Narrator turned dating coach, a chaotic archive of early 2000s dating advice, and the relentless optimism of diet culture self-improvement logic, Suzie launches into a mission: win him back. Rebuild herself. Become the version of herself that makes it all reversible.

Think: romance. Think: sabotage. Think: heartbreak as performance sport.

What follows is a spiralling attempt to regain control through performance, instruction, and fantasy. Every strategy is borrowed, outdated, or slightly unhinged. Every moment of clarity is immediately undermined by desire. As reality and imagination begin to blur, Suzie’s world becomes a heightened space where rom-com logic collides with emotional collapse.

Part satire, part rom-com, part clown show, Suzie S*x Binge leans into the absurdity of dating and self-improvement culture, the choreography of desirability, and the exhausting performance of “being fine” while falling apart.

At its core, the work examines female sexuality and emotional repression, and the pressure to remain legible, desirable, and composed even in moments of rupture. Suzie’s attempts to fix herself become increasingly performative, increasingly frantic, and increasingly funny. Suzie S*x Binge is about performing desirability, when what you really want is connection.

SUZIE S*X BINGE runs over the third weekend of Backbone Festival, October 15 - 17.

🔼 The Ratture! is a new dark comedy set in the grimy underbelly of Rat City, where two rat roommates are trying to survive in a sewer apartment one blocked pipe away from collapse.

The world around them is falling apart, but life in the sewer
doesn’t stop for existential dread. Cheese rations are running low, the chore chart is under threat, and neighbours keep mysteriously disappearing from the apartment block. Still, Barf takes comfort in the Grate’s cryptic wisdom, trusting that everything happens for a reason. M**h, on the other hand, believes in something far more reliable: herself.

As the week barrels toward party night, their opposing beliefs are pushed to the limit. Between visits from their rambling mailrat Styx, the unwelcome presence of Penelope the pigeon, and the strange chanting echoing through the pipes after dark, the sewer grows harder to ignore.

Who keeps chanting late at night?
What can they do in the face of destruction?
When will M**h actually shut up?
Where are their neighbours going?
Why are there so many questions?

Balancing apocalyptic paranoia with filthy domestic comedy, The Ratture! is a play about faith, denial, friendship and the stories we tell ourselves to survive. It’s about small lives caught in forces much bigger than them, and what happens when the end of the world collides with a party you’re already too committed to cancel.

THE RATTURE! runs over the third weekend of Backbone Festival, October 8-10.

🔼 It’s 1986: neon colours flood your TV screen as you wake up to morning cartoons, Madonna on the radio, and the latest word on BMX! The biggest craze since mullets became fashionable!

After getting challenged to THE bike race of the century by a group of loudmouthed teenage boys, the girls of the BMX track and outsider Corey stumble upon something. A lost puppy at the BMX track that they simply can’t leave behind. But once they decide to co-parent the pup, that’s when things get… Weird…

These kids now have one thing on their side the other BMX bikers don’t: a dog with superpowers? A superpuppy? Whatever this pup is, it’s clear this dog is not from Earth.

‘Our Dog Comet’ is an 80’s movie on stage, parodying the classic “all boys, kids on bikes, riding around chasing adventure” trope, except with a cast of witty girls, oh, and Corey. Sure, he’s there too. It’s camp, it’s silly, and yeah, of course it’s got a banging 80’s soundtrack, duh.

Our Dog Comet runs across two weekends of Backbone Festival, with performances on October 10, 16 + 17.

18/08/2026

🔼 Come Down Collective’s USB is a new, devised work more ‘experiment’ than ‘show’, fusing technical design and episodic narrative in a frantic exploration of what it means to be real in an increasingly artificial world.

The premise is simple: all action will be live-streamed and live-uploaded to an empty USB. No action will cease until the USB has reached capacity.

The show will only end when the USB is full.

Through live manipulation of audio and visual technologies and fast-paced dialogue, USB challenges audiences to discover just how much information they can process before the lights come down.

After all, in a conversation between human and machine, who do you really trust to transmit the truth?

USB runs across two weekends of Backbone Festival with performances on October 9, 15 + 16.
