The power of compost! These Grenache vines in a small patch on top of the hill in our block 18 have always struggled. They grow in poor free draining quartz gravel over red clay. the first image shows the transition from no compost in the foreground to compost banded underground vine further up the hill. What a difference! Not just the size of the plants under vine but the colour. The deep green indicates that they are very happy. In the upcoming growing season for the vines the compost will provide the vines with slow release nutrients, shade and will help hold maid tire in the most active root zone.

Our 1936 Bush Vine Dry Grown Grenache was one of the reasons we fell in love with this property. To find this rare Barossa clone still thriving in its deep soils and to be the current custodians of these tough old vines are a joy.
