🌹 A MOTHER’S LOVE NEVER DIES

Concepción “Co**ha” Reyes carried a sorrow no mother should ever have to endure.

Her son, Ritchie Valens, was only 17 when he lost his life on February 3, 1959, in the plane crash that also claimed Buddy Holly and The Big Bopper. His career had lasted only a few months—but his voice would live forever.

Behind the rising star was a proud and protective mother. Ritchie reportedly shared his new songs with her, and she supported the extraordinary dream of a boy who was still young enough to need her permission to g
o on tour.

Nearly three decades later, La Bamba brought his story and music to a new generation. The film was released in July 1987; Co**ha passed away on October 18 of that same year. We cannot know exactly what she felt as the world embraced her son once again—but it is moving to imagine a mother seeing Ritchie’s name shining brightly after so many years of grief.

Today, mother and son rest together beneath the Valenzuela family name.

Two lives separated far too soon—reunited forever. 🌹🎸
