Paintings and ceramics meet through colour, texture, shape and light, creating unexpected conversations between works in the Gallery’s collection.

Travel through more than 300 years of landscape art and printmaking, with intricate etched and engraved works that reward a closer look.

Young local artists aged 12 to 25 respond to the theme ‘Escape From Reality’ through painting, sculpture, textiles, digital art and more.

What a night at Gippsland Art Gallery! 🎉

Last nights Spring launch brought a capacity audience together to celebrate an exciting new season and announce the 2026 John Leslie Art Prize and Wellington Youth Art Prize recipients.

🏆 2026 JOHN LESLIE ART PRIZE

Natasha Bieniek received the $30,000 acquisitive prize for the miniature landscape painting ‘Labyrinth’.

Kate Shaw received Best Gippsland Work for ‘Last One’.

One of Australia's most prestigious landscape painting prizes returns for its 14th iteration. A $30,000 acquisitive prize - with the winner announced Friday 4 September at 6pm.

🎨 Canvas & Clay
A playful new exhibition from the permanent collection, exploring what happens when the line between painting and ceramics disappears.

🖼️ First Impressions: Old Master Prints
Three hundred years of western landscape art. Rembrandt. Piranesi. Turner. All under one roof.

🧵 The Art of Annemieke Mein
An ongoing showcase of iconic three-dimensional textile sculptures of Australian fauna and flora by the renowned Sale-based artist.

The Gippsland Art Gallery's entire permanent collection is now available online, and we think that's worth celebrating.

From paintings, sculpture and photography to glass, ceramics, textiles and woodwork - this collection spans it all. With particular strengths in works on paper, landscape and wildlife art, craft and contemporary painting, there is something here for everyone.

And because the vast majority of these works have been donated or purchased with donated funds, this is truly a community collection. It belongs to all of us.

EXHIBITION ANNOUNCEMENT | THE GOLDEN HOUR

A landmark exhibition celebrating Australia’s Impressionist masterpieces is coming to Gippsland Art Gallery in March 2027.

Exclusive to Gippsland Art Gallery, The Golden Hour: Australian Impressionism - Origins, Icons & Echoes brings together some of the most celebrated works and stories from the formative decades of Australian landscape painting.

Featuring more than 90 iconic works, the exhibition explores the artists, personalities and enduring myths behind a period of Australian art that has profoundly shaped the way the nation sees itself.

Visitors will encounter major works from the celebrated Heidelberg School period, including paintings by Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin and Charles Conder, alongside works by their contemporaries and modern responses by Mary Tonkin and Michelle Hiscock.

Highlights include Roberts’ much-loved Shearing the Rams (1890), McCubbin’s Lost (1886), and twelve works from the infamous 9x5 Impression Exhibition of 1889 - one of the defining moments in the history of Australian Impressionism.

This is a major cultural moment for Gippsland Art Gallery, offering visitors the chance to experience iconic Australian artworks, lesser-known treasures, and contemporary works that show the continuing power of the landscape as a source of inspiration.

This is it. The final weekend of FRANK MESARIC: GIPPSLAND GOTHIC. Two days left to experience three gallery spaces of extraordinary art by one of Gippsland's own.

Thank you to every visitor who walked through the door, stood in front of these paintings, and took them in.

Thank you for sharing, for coming back, and for bringing others. And thank you to Frank Mesaric - for a lifetime of making work this honest, this difficult, and this beautiful. It has been an honour.
