💵✨ When your money becomes a piece of history… it deserves more than a frame. ✨💵
We recently had the pleasure of framing a very special collection of Australian currency for a client — a beautiful set of old $1 and $2 Australian banknotes, accompanied by two coins of each denomination.
These aren't just old notes and coins. They are a little piece of Australia's history.
The Australian $1 note was introduced with decimal currency in 1966, but after years of heavy circulation, it was replaced by the $1 coin in May 1984. The $2 note followed, with the $2 coin introduced in June 1988.
And here's something many people don't realise...
Old Australian banknotes can be worth considerably more than their face value to collectors.
Their value can depend on things such as the particular series, year, signatures, serial number, rarity and — importantly — condition.
Which is exactly why how you frame something like this matters.
The wrong framing materials, adhesives or mounting techniques can permanently damage collectible items. Paper can become discoloured, adhesives can stain or weaken it, and an irreversible mounting method can significantly reduce the item's future collectability.
For this project, we wanted to create the beautiful floating display the client was looking for, while ensuring that the notes remained completely reversible and protected.
Each note was carefully mounted by wrapping it in Mylar, rather than using adhesives directly on the currency. This provides support and protection while allowing the notes to be removed in the future without damaging the original paper.
The coins were displayed using custom circular sink mounts, allowing them to sit beautifully within the design while remaining secure.
The entire collection was then floated over black cotton rag matboard and finished with UltraVue glass, creating a stunning contemporary presentation while providing excellent protection and clarity.
