Yinjaa-Barni Art Yinjaa-Barni Art is a not-for-profit Aboriginal Corporation. Yinjaa-barni means ‘staying together’.

Yinjaa-Barni Art is a collective of Aboriginal artists who predominantly belong to the Yindjibarndi language group and whose ancestral homelands surround the Fortescue River and Millstream Tablelands. Based in Roebourne, a small town in Western Australia’s Pilbara region of the north-west of the state, the Yinjaa-Barni artists create deeply personal works of collective memory, rendering the wildflowers, river systems and landforms of their country onto canvas. Yinjaa-Barni artists have exhibited nationally and internationally and have won multiple awards between them, with high profile artists Mr Mack and Allery Sandy both nominated for one of the country’s most prestigious Indigenous art prizes, the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award, and works by Aileen Sandy, Maudie Jerrold and Mr Mack held by the Art Gallery of Western Australia. For the senior members of the group, art is an important means of expressing and relaying love for their Country, their culture, and the flora of the region. They use this, along with storytelling, as a way of passing on their knowledge to the younger generations, who are rapidly gaining recognition as artists in their own right. Yinjaa-Barni Art Centre would like to acknowledge and thank Rio Tinto for its continuous support over the years.

Danii-Rae Wilson has been experimenting with bold, bright colours in her recent works.

Continuing to paint her iconic fish and turtles, Danii-Rae has also been exploring the landscapes of the Pilbara Hills and the many goannas beginning to emerge from their winter slumbers.

It’s starting to heat up in the Pilbara! 🔥 Make sure to keep an eye on our online store for more hot-off-the-press works from Danii-Rae and the talented Yinjaa-Barni Artists.

We adventured to Sydney Contemporary at the beginning of September to celebrate Allery Sandy’s three prolific works presented with CHALK HORSE Gallery.

During our travels, we were privileged to visit the Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and Artbank, alongside all the exciting events surrounding Sydney Contemporary. It was so exciting to be involved in artist talks, collectors’ events and opening night celebrations.

It was such a special moment in time to connect with new and old friends, celebrate creativity, learning about art from across Australia and internationally.

Yinjaa-Barni Art extends their gratitude to the Government of Western Australia and the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport for their support through the Travel and Trade program. This enabled Yinjaa-Barni Art to travel to this important event.

Allery has been painting something new recently in the studio.

"This work is about Jiirda mina mina, the sacred place on our Country. It is the increasing site for flour. In the early days our ancestor gathered seeds and ground it for flour. There is a sacred area where we find ochre."

This piece will be exhibited this week as part of Colours of our Country 2026, see you there!
