🔹Satellite Projects Exhibition

I’m grateful to be part of this exhibition, curated by Jenny Port, Carla Gottgens and Maria Petrova. While I couldn’t make it to Melbourne, I warmly invite my Melbourne friends to visit.

I have works from my Blue Hands series on display. In these pieces, layered printed hands move between gesture and landscape, holding traces of time, labour, and persistence.

They unfold as part of a parallel world, both shaping and belonging to a landscape of calm. This stands in contrast to the current reality in my home country, where people continue to hold onto hope in their ongoing pursuit of freedom and dignity, while staying deeply connected to the wider world through their rich culture.

Before anything else, my thoughts are with the victims of the shooting and their loved ones.

In The Little Prince, he carefully & lovingly pulled up the baobab seedlings before they grew too large. He knew the danger: they start small and look harmless, but if left unattended, they can split his planet apart.

A few weeks ago, I sent an email to the government about my concerns around the immigration process. The first time I wrote such an email was only a year after my arrival in Australia, after reading news about a visa case for a group that shocked me, especially as I personally knew some absolutely lovely people whose visas were rejected.

What worries me is the lack of space for calm, honest conversations about what we value within this border. When that space disappears, the extreme sides get into loud fights, creating a landscape the rest of society doesn’t like to step into. And if they do, their voices are often not heard among the shouting.

Every country has an ecosystem worth protecting, not just from what people carry in their luggage, but from what is in their hearts. Again this is not meant to be read as anti diversity, anti migration, or anti anything. It means thoughtful, case by case decisions based on values rather than black and white rules.

Those of us who have lived through displacement & the traumatic news of our motherlands know that when destructive forces are enabled, everyone pays the price. The Middle East is terribly bruised, and my people in Iran think of history as a disappointing whirlpool of events that laid darkness on our country about fifty years ago, enabled & legitimised through shortsighted international political games.

Jews, Palestinians, Syrians, Afghans, Iranians have been paying a heavy price, and will continue to do so as long as dark forces are enabled. You are mistaken if you think they only have themselves to blame. Regardless of political games, this darkness does not harm them alone; it spreads wherever it is allowed.

Let’s try to do better, with love, care & responsibility, starting here in Australia. It will benefit us down under & everywhere else, immensely.

LAST DAY to visit Capricornia Printmakers’ 14th Annual Exhibition at the Walter Reid Building, open until 2 p.m.!

Theme: ABOUT TIME

My work reflects on the current, not so peaceful issues around the world and expresses the thought that it’s about time they came to an end, so we can all prepare a feast of celebration. Each work resembles a Persian ceramic plate, carrying the taste of a long awaited promise. The plates are decorated with a dancing girl at the centre, carrying and spreading her healing tray of prosperity over memories of trauma.

Brigalow Art Festival opened on Friday night with a fabulous crowd at the Banana Shire Regional Art Gallery (). I was privileged and honoured to be invited as co-judge this year alongside artist and photographer William Debois ().

There were nearly 200 entries across 21 award categories, yet it still felt like there weren’t enough prizes to recognise the diverse and masterful stories shared through the works. As a practicing artist who often enters art awards myself, it was a unique and humbling experience to be on the other side, to feel the weight and responsibility of judging such a strong collection and giving recognition to fellow artists.

Congratulations to all participating artists, young and old, emerging and professional, who contributed to such a vibrant exhibition, drawing people from near and far for an evening of celebrating art in regional Queensland. And of course, congratulations to all the award winners, especially the overall winner, Carol Froster (), for her beautifully executed ceramic work. We loved the combination of gentle natural elements in a bold modern form and an intriguing narrative.

The fully packed linoprinting workshop on Saturday was an absolute joy, 15 enthusiastic participants, incredible talent, and such a wonderfully diverse audience for a small town, all topped off with fantastic catering! Many thanks to Bridie (.weaver), the extraordinary artist and passionate curator of the gallery, for organising everything so seamlessly; Sarah Larsen, artist and local gem, and all the volunteers for the beautiful installation; and RASN CQ East’s Katrina Elliott () for her amazing support of regional arts and for helping me throughout the workshop.

It was inspiring to witness so much creativity and connection, as a reminder why art matters so deeply in our communities.

You can view the exhibition until 12 December.

đź’” In times when the news feels heavy with fear and uncertainty, I look for the possibility of hope and light.

🌊 A young Baloch girl, Abedeh Jadgal, has just won gold at Iran’s under 18 women’s surfing championship. She is from a region described as the most deprived in the country, where many still lack even basic needs.

🌞 Someone commented under the original post: She’s so beautiful, you’d think the photo was AI generated.

🕊️ But she is real. And her victory is real. This is the face that keeps hope alive. I know that a new chapter of pride and celebration is opening for my people.
