Dear Forever Dancers,
For those who are not aware, Neil Rosenfeld passed away peacefully on Friday, 15th May.
Neil was an extraordinary personality — a gifted dancer, mentor, entrepreneur, and teacher who used his humour with great effect to lighten the mood and create an environment where ideas and learning could flourish.
As a dancer, Neil was a true technician who breathed life into the patterns we associate with dance. To Neil, dancing was emotional, expressive, and deeply personal.
He used his immense knowledge and powers of persuasion to evoke a reaction from everyone he trained. Neil was a spiritual broker who made you believe in your own potential.
At Forever Dance, Neil and Jenny Rosenfeld mentored and trained many of our staff, examined countless medallists, and performed as adjudicators throughout our competition series.
One of my favourite sayings from Neil was:
“Good dancing is symmetry taken out of proportion before the point of distortion.”
In the world of dance, Neil’s achievements included Top 5 placings in the International Latin American Finals, the European Professional Ballroom Championships, and multiple Australian Ballroom and Latin Championship titles.
From 1970 onwards, Neil, along with Jenny, ran their own business as founders, owners and proprietors of Granada Dance Studio — a studio that continues to operate to this very day.
As an advocate for dance in Australia, Neil helped build the popularity of Ballroom and Latin dancing to the point where he oversaw the Australian Championships moving from town halls to the Melbourne Parks precinct in 1983.
In 2016, Neil was awarded Life Membership of the Australian Dancing Society in recognition of his contributions and achievements.
Neil, it is a testament to the man you were that beyond your dancing achievements, you will be remembered as a wonderful human being.
Thank you for your contribution to our craft and to our hearts.
God bless.
