We just had our very first rehearsal with our fabulous pianist, Patrick Baldwin, and the energy in the room was absolutely incredible! The music is coming together beautifully, and having Patrick at the keys brings a whole new level of magic to this program✨🎹

Celebrating our Legacy Members…
🎶 Sopranos – bringing brilliance, sparkle and soaring colour to our sound!
With their bright tone, shimmering harmonies and effortless lyricism, our sopranos add light, energy and elegance to the sound of Bel Canto Singers. Today, we’re delighted to introduce two wonderful members of our soprano section, who also play important leadership roles within our committee. ✨

🎵 Meet Kaz Healey – Secretary
Kaz’s lifelong love of music began with piano lessons in the UK and continued through school choirs before taking a long break from singing. In 2019, she returned to choral music with the award-winning Sweet Adelines chorus, Vocalescence. Since then, Kaz has expanded into chorale singing with Brisbane Chorale and joined Bel Canto Singers to further challenge and develop her vocal skills. We’re so delighted to have her warm presence and musicianship in our choir community.

🎵 Meet Laura Valenti – President
Laura’s love of music began early through piano lessons, school choirs and musical productions, later continuing with amateur musical theatre and wedding performances. After moving to the Moreton Bay Region in 2018, she rediscovered her passion for choral singing and co-founded Bel Canto Singers alongside Chloe.
Outside of music, Laura is a respected leader in the real estate industry, balancing business with her passion for creating beautiful harmonies and sharing classical music with the community.

We’re so grateful to have Kaz and Laura as part of Bel Canto Singers, both as dedicated committee members and as sopranos who bring such brightness, beauty and vitality to our choir’s sound. 💛

🎶 Altos – the warm heart of our harmony!
With their rich tone, depth and beautiful blend, our altos bring warmth, colour and balance to the sound of Bel Canto Singers. We’re delighted to introduce two wonderful members of our alto section, whose musical experience and passion add so much to our choir community. ✨

🎵 Meet Trish Guthrie-Watt
Trish’s lifelong love of music began in her hometown of Bega, leading to studies in piano performance and pedagogy, and a career spanning more than 40 years as a piano teacher and accompanist. Alongside her work at the piano, Trish has enjoyed choral singing and performing with a ca****la groups, including singing in Aida with Opera Australia’s Opera on the Beach. Since moving to North Brisbane in 2024, she has loved finding friendship and connection through Bel Canto Singers.

🎵 Meet Dagmar Scherer
Originally from Germany, Dagmar studied piano, organ, flute and voice at a specialist music school, where she regularly performed with the choir at the famous Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt. Since moving to Australia, she has remained actively involved in choral singing. Alongside running two businesses and managing a national dog rescue, Dagmar values choir as a chance to connect, unwind and bring joy to others through music.

We’re so pleased to have both Trish and Dagmar as part of Bel Canto Singers, helping create the warm, rich and vibrant sound of our choir. 💛

🎶 Meet our new member, Penelope Philipson!

Penelope has loved music from a young age, studying violin and piano before singing in school, university and church choirs across Australia and overseas. She especially enjoys the music of Bach and the tradition of sacred harp singing.

Outside of music, Penelope works in disaster and emergency management, and values singing with Bel Canto Singers as a creative and expressive balance. Welcome, Penelope! ✨

🎶 Meet our new member, Julia Beckitt!

Julia’s love of singing began in school choirs and later expanded through performances with the Navy Reserve Band Tasmania on both flute and piccolo. She has also enjoyed musical theatre with the Pine Rivers Musical Association and spent a decade singing with Vocalescence, Sweet Adelines chorus and competitive barbershop quartets.

Julia competed nationally and qualified for the international Sweet Adelines quartet competition in 2019. We’re delighted to welcome her to Bel Canto Singers! ✨

😍 REHEARSALS HAVE BEGUN! 🎶

Our first rehearsal night doubled as an Open Rehearsal, giving new singers the chance to meet us, sing with us, and see if Bel Canto Singers felt like the right fit.

With fresh repertoire, great conversations (and an extra-long refreshment break ☕), we loved welcoming so many wonderful voices. It’s not just about singing well—it’s about singing together.

We met some fantastic prospective members and can’t wait to introduce new faces soon 💛
