A little behind the scenes of what goes into our art projects… 🎨

There is a LOT more preparation involved than people probably realise.

I love creating projects where the kids aren’t just sitting down and copying something.

We build.
We paint.
We experiment.
We problem solve.
We add details.
We make a mess. 😂

And then somehow…

we end up with these. 🍩❤️

There’s something pretty special about seeing a group of young artists creating together.

This week, the kids got to put their own ideas onto our studio mural -sketching, designing, choosing colours and working together to create something that will become a permanent part of our creative space.

It’s not just a mural…
It’s their ideas.
Their creativity.
Their mark.

And I can’t wait to show you what we create with it!

We know holiday activities can be tricky when you have siblings of different ages, so we’ve come up with a little something to make things easier for families!

One sibling creates… the other can PLAY!

When you book one of our Spring Holiday Art Workshops, you’ll receive a 20% OFF discount code for Pixie Play for a sibling to enjoy some playtime next door!

The discount can be used to:
✨ Book a play session before or after the art workshop
✨ Or have your younger sibling play while their brother or sister is creating
✨ Perfect for little ones 6 and under who might not be ready for an art workshop just yet!

Our Thursday artists have been putting our upcoming 3D Donut Workshop to the test!

They’ve started building their giant pop- art donuts using plaster gauze, layering and shaping them to create the 3D form.

And yes… they’re already starting to look VERY much like donuts!

But we’re only at the beginning!

Because these are BIG sculptures, they need time to dry before we can move onto the most exciting part…

🎨 PAINTING + ICING + COLOUR + DECORATING!

I’m using this class to test the process before our 2-day school holiday 3D Donut Workshop -making sure we’ve got the timing, materials and process just right for the kids.

And I already know the finished donuts are going to be SO much fun! 🌈🍩✨

Not every cone makes the cut… 😂🍦

Meet the famous spaghetti cone.

Sometimes the 3D printer decides it’s had enough and creates modern abstract art instead. 🤣

The failed prints are all part of creating something new, and every successful cone has probably had a few spaghetti siblings before it.

CAN YOU TIE A POOL NOODLE IN A KNOT?!

This week our young artists took on a VERY different kind of 3D art challenge!

Starting with a simple pool noodle, the kids had to work out how to bend, twist and manipulate it into a knot shape -which was definitely easier said than done! 😂

Once they had their forms working, it was time to get messy…

PLASTER GAUZE TIME!

The kids wrapped their sculptures layer by layer, learning how to build strength, structure and form while transforming a soft pool noodle into something that will eventually become a permanent 3D sculpture.

Along the way they’re developing:

🧠 Problem-solving
✋ Fine motor skills & hand-eye coordination
🗿 Understanding of 3D form
💡 Creative thinking
🤝 Collaboration
⏳ Patience & persistence

And of course…

LOTS OF MESS + LOTS OF FUN! 😂

These sculptures are going to take a few lessons to complete, so this is just the beginning.

I can’t wait to see what they look like once we add the final colours! 🎨🔥

🍩 Special 2-Day Donut Sculpture Art Class
Day 1: 28 Sept, 2–4pm – Create your sculpture
Day 2: 2 Oct, 9.30–11.30am – Paint & take it home!
(Plaster gauze needs two days – if you can’t make Day 2, just drop into an Open Studio to finish)
Spaces are limited for the workshops – book early!
