POINT LONSDALE FOGHORN UPDATE — WE’RE MAKING PROGRESS!
Work continues to bring the historic Point Lonsdale Foghorn back to life, and we’re getting closer.
The required air receiver inspections are complete, the critical air valves have been inspected and gaskets replaced, and the historic Gardner engine has been running. Further work is needed to get it running smoothly and reliably, while electrical work is also progressing.
With machinery of this age, there are always challenges. Our priority is to have the foghorn operating safely and reliably, not simply to get it to sound once.
We don’t have a date for the First Blast yet, but we’ll announce it when the machinery is ready.
A huge thank you to the more than 100 founding members of The Hornblowers who have supported the project. The fundraising campaign remains open, and every donation helps bring this remarkable piece of maritime heritage back into operation.
And a special thank you to volunteers Daniel, Stephen and Ted for making a difference.
The Point Lonsdale Foghorn is on its way back.
International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend returns on 15–16 August 2026 at the iconic Point Lonsdale Lighthouse.
