The Homebrew Verandah Singers are a bunch of blokes who enjoy getting together to share the pleasure and power of combining their male voices in song. From tender broken hearted love songs to Elizabethan drinking songs, Georgian rugby songs to gospel/liberation songs, Homebrew captures the raw energy of men singing in the shower or bellowing over the roar of a two stroke! ng about who we are and what our country represents…we sing about our identity, our social history, sing about a “fair go” ethos, but most of all we sing to celebrate life! We practise every Wednesday night, from 7:00 to 9:00 at the North Carlton Railway House, 20 Solly Avenue, Princes Hill. We have a break in the middle of each session for a cup of tea/coffee, and in spite of our name, we only occasionally break out some "singing syrup". We sing four to six songs in a session of about 30 minutes. Participation at these is optional, and from the 17 people who regularly come to choir practice we usually manage to have 12 people available for the performances. There is no audition or requirement to read music. It’s no joke that we don't let the inability to hold a note or keep time get in the way of enjoying ourselves, and our singing leader John Flanagan ensures we have a great time while making the most of our range of voices. We ask for a contribution each week of $15 (pensioners) to $20 (everyone else) to cover venue hire and payment to our singing leader. If you are coming along to see what it’s like, there is no charge for the first couple of weeks.
