Introducing our director!
Stephanie Lee is an emerging q***r feminist director, theatre-maker and stage manager who graduated with a Masters of Theatre Directing from the VCA in 2023. In 2022 Steph received a Green Room Award Nomination for co-writing 'A Zoom Group Project: The Musical' (The Butterfly Club), which she also directed. Most recently, they co-wrote and directed ‘Checked Out: The Musical’ for Melbourne Fringe 2025 which was a Judge’s Pick (Solidarity Hall). This year they also directed and co-devised ‘SLAY’ (Explosives Factory) which was received critical praise as ’the best original theatre I’ve seen in Melbourne for a long time’ (Theatre Travels). For Midsumma 2024 they revived Declan Greene’s early work ‘HOME ECONOMICS’ after a sold out run for her 2023 VCA grad show (Explosives Factory). In the last few years they have interned on ‘Looking For Alibrandi’ at Malthouse (dir. Stephen Nicolazzo), ‘Wolf Play’ at Red Stitch (dir. Isabella Vadiveloo), and ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ at Princess Theatre (resident dir. David Spencer). Their recent stage management highlights include: ASM on ‘A Nighttime Travesty’ (Malthouse 2025), PM/SM for both Western Edge’s Edge Ensembles Program 2024/2025 and VUSC school program 2025, ASM on ‘STORKED’ for Antipodes Theatre Company (Theatre Works 2025) and SM for ‘Threadbare’ by Tomas Parrish-Chynoweth (St Martins 2025).
