South Coast Folk Club

South Coast Folk Club Every Thursday night at the
Pt Noarlunga Bowling Club
Hunt Park, River Road - Pt Noarlunga SA
Weekly free sessions with regular concerts as advertised.

South Coast Folk Club is one of the biggest and most popular in the near Adelaide area. It is not unusual to walk into one of our free Thursday night sessions to find upwards of fifty or sixty musicians, singers, storytellers, supporters and visitors all joining in the fun! You will find people from all walks of life, young and old, often from many parts of the world. The emphasis is on sharing -

while there are quite a few experienced musicians associated with the Club, they are only too happy to welcome and listen to raw beginners at the sessions and perhaps give a few pointers. If you're in Adelaide on a Thursday night, why not take a drive down the coast and join us - you'll certainly be made welcome! Our sessions are held from 8pm till midnight at the Port Noarlunga Bowling Club, Hunt Reserve, River Road, Port Noarlunga - alongside the Onkaparinga River. The session is free and the Bowling Club is licensed. Apart from the weekly come-all-ye sessions, the Club also presents regular quarterly concerts - featuring members of the folk club plus guests. The Folk Club has proudly been running weekly sessions since 1988 a remarkable 34 years! Many people have passed through this club, some have remained to maintain the ethos and musical culture that was founded by Annie and the late Peter Thornton. The continued success of the Folk Club is that it has remained as an acoustic ‘session format’ club. This means that everyone is encouraged to play, sing, bring spoken word, listen and appreciate items presented at the club. This format has enabled the club to grow organically to the success it is today. Being a ‘session format’ means that you are encouraged to join in - if you are able to play – but please – do not take over the item being presented. All abilities are welcome at the club and we encourage people no matter what their ability to share their songs, instrumental piece, spoken word and everything to do with music. Members pride themselves on being friendly and inclusive to everyone that comes to the club by providing a safe environment for each person to explore their musicality as well as sharing and supporting newer folk to perform items and help with any useful tips along the way.
