Linda Brown Artist Artworks inspired by nature and the natural world. Created from my wanderings, memory and imagination

Layers of colour, texture and memory.

This artwork began with a Gelli print, building soft passages of colour and subtle textures that became the foundation for the final piece. Working with layers allows unexpected marks and fragments to emerge, creating a sense of depth and atmosphere that can’t be achieved in a single application of paint.

Through a number of layers I developed a quiet coastal landscape where distant landforms sit on the horizon, surrounded by expansive water and sky. The layered process leaves traces of what came before, adding history, texture and a sense of place.

I love how Gelli printing invites spontaneity, while the acrylic layers bring calm and resolution to the work.

Sunrise Silence

There’s something magical about those few moments before the sun breaks the horizon.

The landscape is still, the water quiet, and the first light begins to glow across the sky. Warm amber tones emerge from the darkness, reflecting across the water and transforming the scene moment by moment.

This artwork was inspired by that fleeting transition between night and day—a reminder to pause, breathe, and appreciate the beauty that arrives slowly.

A glimpse into my new series of acrylic and monoprint landscapes.

Inspired by the quiet beauty of coastal horizons, these works explore texture, atmosphere and the subtle interplay of land, sea and sky. Each piece is layered, intuitive and unique, embracing the unexpected marks that make monoprinting such a rewarding process.

If you’re in the area, I’d love you to visit my open studio and see the collection in person.

Between Earth and Sky

Layers of acrylic and monoprint come together to capture a quiet coastal landscape, where weathered earth meets distant water beneath a vast, textured sky.

I’m drawn to these in-between places—those moments of stillness where the landscape feels both familiar and timeless. The monoprint process creates rich, organic textures and unexpected marks, while acrylic layers build depth, light and atmosphere.

This artwork is an exploration of space, mood and connection to the natural world.

Still Waters

A quiet moment captured in layers of acrylic and monoprint.

This piece explores the subtle beauty of light on water, where reflections blur the boundary between land, sky and sea. The textured monoprint surface creates a sense of movement and depth, while translucent layers of acrylic evoke the calm and ever-changing nature of the landscape.

I love how monoprinting allows unexpected marks and textures to emerge, bringing a unique energy to each artwork. No two prints are ever the same.

WHY DO PEOPLE CREATE ART?

People create art for many different reasons, but at its heart, art is a way of making sense of the world around us.

Some artists create to express emotions that are difficult to put into words. Others create to tell stories, capture memories, explore ideas, or share their unique view of life.

Art can be a celebration, a protest, a question, a dream, or simply a moment of joy. It allows us to connect with others, communicate across cultures, and leave a record of our experiences for future generations.

For many, the act of creating is just as important as the finished artwork. The process brings focus, relaxation, discovery, and a sense of purpose. It gives us permission to experiment, play, and imagine new possibilities.

From ancient cave paintings to contemporary installations, people have always created art because creativity is part of being human.

Every brushstroke, stitch, mark, and sculpture tells a story. Every artwork begins with the simple desire to create something that didn’t exist before.
Art isn’t just about making something beautiful—it’s about communication, connection, exploration, and expressing what it means to be alive.

WHY ART MATTERS

Art helps us see the world differently.

It captures moments, tells stories, sparks conversations, and expresses emotions that words sometimes cannot. Whether it’s a painting, sculpture, textile piece, photograph, or a simple sketch in a notebook, art connects us to ourselves and to each other.

Art encourages creativity, curiosity, and imagination. It can challenge our thinking, celebrate our culture, preserve our history, and bring beauty into everyday life.

In a fast-paced world, art invites us to slow down, observe, reflect, and appreciate the unique perspectives of others.

Every artwork begins with an idea, a feeling, or a question. Every artist adds something valuable to the conversation.

Art matters because it reminds us what it means to be human. ❤️

What role does art play in your life? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
