Caroline Healey Art

Caroline Healey Art Here you'll find paintings, drawings and photos mostly inspired by the sea, places I've been and ani I feel lucky! They are my way of celebrating colour.

In 2012 I met my husband backpacking in Colombia and in 2014 after a stint in Buenos Aires I made the move from the UK to Australia, my new home. I live in Warrnambool, Australia which is completely beautiful. Painting and drawing are a way of observing my surroundings in more detail than I usually do in my busy life. I've been very lucky to find a place, a sense of belonging in Warrnambool. This has been largely down to the hugely welcoming artistic community.

'Killarney' is at the photographer's today. When it's home I'll varnish it, frame it and it'll be ready to view...at my exhibition in November. Honestly, my photography is not great, I almost didn't post this photo! I can't wait to be able to show the actual painting at in November so everyone can really visually dive into it.

Got a birthday coming up? Been tasked with the leaving present? Just feel like browsing on a public holiday evening? My website is very lovely! (Though I always welcome feedback.) It's got fine art prints, jigsaws, cards, bags in joy-bringing colour.

Are you missing Warrnambool or Port Fairy? Gone to uni or moved away for work? My website is the place for you to get nostalgic!

Can't find what you're looking for? Just ask me.

P.S. I saw the Dachshund Dash for the first time this weekend!!!!!!! πŸŒπŸΎπŸ’™

I come from a small family so I was the last Healey in my family (except for my most wonderful 91 year old Dad) before I got married.

I am happy to be a Valpied, but I am also so happy to have a way to still be a Healey.

Did you marry and find a way to keep your maiden name? Do you miss your maiden name? Did you keep it? Did you merge your surname with your partner's and both change your names?! (I love that! Though Hepied wouldn't have really worked for me!! 🀣 Valpied is pronounced Val-peed.)

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Another work in progress for my November exhibition at Can you guess where it is?!

Just before Covid hit us in Australia, I held my second solo show at It was a sellout; I felt incredibly supported by the community. I've been part of several exhibitions since, but no big solo show in Warrnambool.

This November, The F Project will host my exhibition called Points of View (working title). I'm so excited. The paintings are coming along. I'm getting most of the big ones photographed by the incredible so people can choose a fine art print of their favourite painting.

DATES: Wed 11th Nov - Sun 6th Dec

Opening night: Sat 14th Nov, 6-8pm

Please pop it in your diaries. I hope to see you there!

I'll be spending lots of time at The F Project during my exhibition. I plan to paint there, give an artist talk, perhaps a workshop.

What would you like to see or participate in? Let me know in comments or by message.

Here's a progress shot of Murnane's Bay, which I've been painting this morning. Normally I don't move between paintings, but at the moment it's working for me. I'm getting 'fresh eyes' when I go back to each piece.

Murnane's Bay and Killarney will be the last two large paintings I will definitely create for my exhibition in November at There may be more!

I'm also painting a very cute 20x20cm piece of a girl and her cat for a surprise birthday gift from her mum.

I'm going to take this afternoon off to get my husband out of the house. Until his back op he's a bit housebound and I think quite bored despite tearing through our bookshelf and watching those never-quite-got-to classic films! It's a beautiful afternoon here, the sun is out.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and weekend!

Contrast is hugely important in my paintings. Often I find myself painting in midtones. When I add lighter, brighter details, the painting pops.

Look at your whole painting. Where are the lightest bits? Where are the darkest? Are they where you want them to be? Are they light enough and dark enough?

Remember, in acrylics you can keep layering so you can just try something. If it doesn't work, go over it. But before you do, stand back to help your eyes see the big picture.

I hope this helps. Any questions, please just message me and I'll do my best to help further.
