Farewell to one of the founding figures behind Port Douglas Carnivale. Long before the parades, concerts and crowds became part of the annual calendar, Michael was one of the people around the table helping shape a vision for what Carnivale could become.
He believed in Port Douglas, believed in community and believed that bringing people together through music, entertainment and celebration made the town stronger.
Over the decades he remained one of Carnivale’s biggest supporters, always championing local talent, backing community events and encouraging others to get involved. Whether it was through live music, local radio, business or simply sharing an idea, Michael’s influence could be felt throughout the fabric of Port Douglas.
This photo was taken at Feast Port Douglas in 2015 and captures Michael exactly as so many will remember him. The truth is there wasn’t a Carnivale where you didn’t see Michael.
Carnivale has changed and grown over the years, but the community spirit that sits at its heart is something Michael helped create. On behalf of everyone involved with Port Douglas Carnivale (past and present), we extend our sincere condolences to Helen, Shane, his family and the many friends whose lives he touched.
Thank you, Michael, for helping create something that continues to bring people together year after year.
