Ever seen prawns in the wild, up close and personal? Neither had we, until we went night snorkeling near the Garden Island jetty in the Port River. They are very animated, social animals, and emerge from the protection of the silty bottom after dark to live their prawny lives. This one has a fun soundtrack, so watching with sound on is recommended!

This video shows a variety of creatures found in Angas Inlet and North Arm, near Garden Island in the Port River estuary. It was first exhibited in 2019, and features macro video sequences of two nudibranch species discovered in the Port River for the first time during this project: Godiva quadricolor and Dendrodoris arborescens.

This video was shot by Jenni Wyrsta from the The Official Port River Dolphin Watch and edited by Emma Monceaux. Jenni provided her footage for us to edit and display in an exhibit at It Came From the Harbour back in 2019. Now it's online for everyone to see and enjoy. The Port River's resident dolphin population is in hot water, with boat strikes, entanglements and infant mortality ongoing problems.

You're probably aware of the sad story of the recent history of mangrove dieback at St Kilda, adjacent to the saltfields. A vigil was held yesterday, with hundreds of people showing support for immediate intervention to stop the ongoing harm.

Three of the speeches from yesterday's event can be seen in the playlist below. Together they run for about 12 minutes.

Environmental scientist and local area expert Peri Coleman shares here analysis of the recent death of at least 35 hectares of vegetation in the St Kilda mangroves. Short summary: the former saltfields have been mismanaged since they stopped producing salt seven years ago and have flooded adjacent areas with hypersaline brine.

The salt marshes and mangroves in St Kilda are dying

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) in South Australia is testing West Lakes' water, fish and crustaceans for PFAS contamination. The source is likely to be sewage sludge from the former Port Adelaide wastewater treatment plant, which was used during the development of West Lakes. Thanks to the Authority for their investigative work

A fishing expedition of a different kind has begun in West Lakes as the state’s Environmental Protection Authority investigates the PFAS contamination.

We believe that appropriate action should be taken in the Adelaide Dolphin Sanctuary when veterinary advice is clear. Please sign the petition below to help secure Ministerial permission to capture Namor and investigate the unusual persistent lump on the dolphin's body. It could save a precious life.

Within an hour, this petition could have thousands more supporters if everyone chipped in the price of a coffee. Can you help reach this petition’s signature goal?
