I wrote this 3 years ago. A vision for the Mercury Cinema / Media Resource Centre so it can become an engine of film production, exhibition and culture.

Since the Mercury was almost(?) going to show a festival of AI films on Feb 6, 2026, a form that if embraced would put many actors, filmmakers, technicians, composers etc out of work.. And arguably just make terrible AI conjured films, creating a dystopian existence.. It might be worth revisiting this article which lays out an alternative history and future for the institution. Take a look.

Sign an open letter to 'The Mercury' in protest of the OMNI AI Film Festival Screening.

On Friday the 6th of February, our local filmmaking institution, The Mercury, are hosting the OMNI Film Festival which will be exclusively showcasing generative AI "films". This is damaging to all artists and lovers of film, and is something worth standing up against. An open letter to The Mercury feels like an appropriate way to raise our collective voice and say that this is something we will not stand for. If you agree with what is being said in the letter below and would like to join as a co-signer, please write the name you'd like to sign as.
