From the centre of Perth to the furthest corners of the state, we have provided the soundtrack to lif

e in WA since 1928. As the State Orchestra, Perth’s first and finest, WASO is the largest employer of performing artists in Western Australia and reaches more than two million people each year with musical experiences on stage, in our community, and online. From concert halls to classrooms, hospitals to aged care, we bring joy, inspire learning, and nurture participation in our community, because everybody deserves the opportunity to experience live music. Every year, through community and leading industry partnerships, we engage a new generation of young and emerging artists to help secure a bright future for music in Australia. We celebrate our rich classical music heritage with great artists from all over the world and commission and perform new repertoire to renew and expand it. The Orchestra collaborates widely with major arts companies and independent artists, performing opera to ballet, movies to musicals, jazz to rock. We champion the diversity of music in all its forms, with a team of talented and passionate people who create unforgettable experiences for all West Australians to enjoy. Asher Fisch is Principal Conductor and Artistic Adviser of our Orchestra and we are proud to call Perth Concert Hall home. West Australian Symphony Orchestra respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians and Elders of Country throughout Western Australia, and the Whadjuk Noongar people on whose lands we work and share music.

For one remarkable week, Albany became home to the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

From side-by-side workshops with local musicians and performances in aged care homes, to school visits, open rehearsals and two sold-out performances at Albany Entertainment Centre, the tour was about so much more than what happened on stage.

More than 70 musicians and staff travelled thousands of kilometres to share music, connect with the community and inspire audiences of all ages across the Great Southern.

Discover the full story behind WASO’s Albany tour, and see how an orchestra can make an impact far beyond the concert hall. Read the full article on our new Sounds and Stories.

Congratulations to composer Paul Stanhope, whose work Mahāsāgar has won the 2026 APRA AMCOS Art Music Award for Work of the Year: Choral!

Premiered by WASO in August 2025, the work brought together an extraordinary cast of performers, including Asher Fisch, WASO musicians, the WASO Chorus, soprano Sara Macliver, tenor Andrew Goodwin and the Aquinas College Schola Cantorum. It also featured new poetry by Australian writers, including Koreng Wudjari Noongar poet Cass Lynch.

The award marks Paul’s fifth APRA AMCOS Art Music Award and is a wonderful recognition of everyone who helped bring this ambitious new Australian work to life.

Thank you to Perth Children's Hospital and Health Service for having us last week!

Through our Hospital Orchestra Project, WASO musicians visit Perth Children’s Hospital to share live music and create moments of connection, wellbeing and recreation for patients, families and staff.

We’re so grateful to be able to bring the joy of music into the hospital and share the power of live music where it’s needed most.
