A “Dry River Bed” one of my favourite places to be in the Kimberleys and one of my favourite songs to accompany my recently completed mosaic.
“Dry River Bed” by the Pigram Brothers.
Put them together and … goosebumps!! 🤗🎶💕

Just like the chicken or the egg ; what comes first - the image or the story?
Usually for me, it’s the image that is the inspiration but with this piece it was the story that inspired the image.
“The Awakening “ shows the gradual awareness of a reality as the morning light reveals what has been uncertain.
Hmmm?? Food for thought.🤗 🤔

I’m done!!
The WA MAANZ group were privileged to have the opportunity to workshop with Anabella Wewer before Christmas - here in Perth. What a positive learning experience we all had. Thanks so much for coming out west Anabella . 🙏🏻🤗
This is my piece which I started in Anabella’s “Nature as Muse” workshop and which was inspired by the lines and colours of a beautiful rock loaned to us for the occasion by the Lapidary Club.
Thanks MAANZ for enabling the workshops to happen. 🤗

My most recent mosaic “Finding Tranquility” was inspired by the sound of complete silence on a tropical beach one balmy morning.
No lapping water or distant crashing waves to be heard. No rustle of wind in the trees. No birdsong. Just stillness - and a meditating egret for company.
Magical moment. 🤗

😁 TIME to SHARE 😁
After all three pieces being under wraps for this year, I’m thrilled to now share my mosaic artworks that are presently at the MAANZ Symposium “Time and Materialty” being held in Geelong. Congratulations and thankyou to everyone involved in making this wonderful biennial event happen.
Such amazing works to be seen here!!👏💕

I also feel very honoured and proud to have had my piece”The Witness” juried into the International Exhibition in the company of such amazing and innovative creations.
My portrait “ Channeling Bouguereau “ in the Liminal Gallery is a nod to the French master of the C19th while my little “ Paua” will participate soon in the fun silent auction.
Such a fantastic experience to be immersed in all things mosaic with our beautiful West Aussie group. 💕

Experimenting again in my happy place trialling different fiddly mosaic techniques. This time I used the double indirect mosaic method and then was super careful with the temperamental self leveling plaster. Happy that I didn’t over fiddle. All good . 👍😁

Last weekend MAANZ WA held our second workshop out of the series of three workshops we have planned which incrementally develop the concept of Traditional Roman Mosaics and conventions. Thrilled to say it was TERRIFIC !! It was two days of learning - theory and skills development on the first day and implementing this knowledge in a small project on the second - all with such happy positivity and enthusiasm . 😄😄😄
I couldn’t have asked for a better experience as a presenter and thank everyone present for their wonderful efforts. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻💕
We will run this workshop again at the end of September and still have some places available. If you are interested in learning about traditional mosaicing, please either email or DM me for further information.

🎉🎉🎉 IT’S HAPPENING 🎉🎉🎉
The new initiative by MAANZ WA to offer a series of workshops on “TRADITIONAL MOSAICS “ is well underway with the completion of the first two workshops at the INTRODUCTORY level. At this level we learnt of the basic rules used by the ancient mosaicists, focused on precision cutting techniques and used simple laying methods.
A big thankyou to the cheerful, enthusiastic participants in both groups who were eager to learn and to develop their mosaic skills. Thankyou also to Pat for her valuable support. 🙏🏻💕
The next two day workshops will be on clean gluing skills, developing precision cutting and laying techniques and moving andemento into curves.
There are still some places available in the second two day workshop which will be held at the end of September. If you’re interested in joining us, please DM me for the details. 🤗

It has been such a long time since I posted that friends have asked what I’ve been doing. In reality, I’ve been really busy working on developing a series of three progressive workshops for MAANZ WA to offer to members and interested people.
The workshops commence at the end of this month with an introduction to traditional mosaicing and then progress to a skills development program later in the year. The third workshop is a project for participants to use the skills they have practised.
It is a very exciting time for MAANZ WA and we all look forward to getting this new initiative underway. 🤗

Experimenting with Cement.
I have recently been conducting trials working with mosaics set into self levelling cement and free standing. As always when I venture into unknown territory, there were myriads of problems which presented themselves. Though there were lots of
ugh 😩moments and wasted mosaics, I really enjoyed the problem solving required and have at last come up with an image set in a cement background - which actually released from the frame and the substrate in one piece😮‍💨. A good start . More challenges still to overcome . 👍🤗

Change of Scenery - with my first Mosaic Landscape Workshop which was held over the last two days. We worked on colour theory and achieving perspective in mosaic landscapes. It was a pretty intense learning curve for us all as we moved into the concept of “tonal values not colour”. My sincere thanks 🙏🏻🤗 to the ten wonderful ladies who participated with such enthusiasm and positivity.
You all made it so worthwhile! 😘
