🎨 ARTIST FEATURE | Philippa Gordon

Tresillian Arts Centre is thrilled to highlight the multi-faceted practice of ceramic artist and educator Philippa (Pip) Gordon. A graduate of Curtin University (BA of Fine Arts, 2000) and Perth Central TAFE (Diploma of Studio Ceramics), Pip is also a Specialist Art and Japanese educator, and the founder of the creative business Clay + Humans.

Pip’s ever-evolving practice is deeply informed by an eclectic background, drawing upon her studies in Asian Studies, Biology, and Veterinary Nursing, alongside travels through Europe and Asia. Her time living in Tokyo during the early nineties heavily resonates in her work, reflecting a mega-city experience where art and nature beautifully intertwine.

Utilising clay as a powerful vehicle for personal expression, Pip embraces the tactile, meditative, and cathartic nature of the medium. Her work explores form and surface through a wide range of techniques, including wheelwork, hand-building, casting, and intricate surface methods like impressing and Mishima (inlay). Today, her unique ceramic pieces are held in private collections worldwide, spanning Australia, Europe, America, and Japan.

🎨 ARTIST FEATURE | Angela Davis

Tresillian Arts Centre is showcasing the landscape-driven practice of resident artist Angela Davis. Raised in the bushland of a New South Wales sheep property, Angela pairs a lifelong observation of the environment with a scientific background in biology, geology, and palaeontology to inform her work.

Her creative process relies heavily on fieldwork. Gathering visual data during remote bushwalks and geological field trips, she documents her observations in sketchbooks and photography before translating these experiences into larger studio pieces. Rather than relying on a single approach, Angela experiments across oils, pastels, watercolours, and acrylics to investigate how different mediums alter and hold the atmospheric feeling of the Australian terrain.

Angela has a 25-year history with Tresillian as a student, tutor, and studio artist, having exhibited her work locally, interstate, and internationally. She currently operates out of the Garage Studio at Tresillian, where her ongoing art practice can be viewed.

🎨 ARTIST FEATURE | Judy Rogers

Tresillian Arts Centre is highlighting the multi-disciplinary practice of Judy Rogers. Hungarian-born and science-trained, Judy creates work that spans from intricate mixed-media pieces to large-scale public sculptures, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary innovation.

Her recent creative output is driven by a detailed, nine-year study of Western Australian flora. Infused with a scientific perspective, Judy’s work translates the distinct structures of the local landscape into physical form, exploring the textures and shapes of native botany. This distinct thematic focus has informed her public commissions for the City of Melville and the City of Stirling and was further developed during a recent international research residency at HANGAR Lisbon.

Based in Western Australia since 1995, Judy’s art is held in prominent global and domestic collections, including the TAGUS International Art Museum, Hangzhou Qianjiang International Art Museum, Rio Tinto, Edith Cowan University, and Royal Perth Hospital.

🎨 ARTIST FEATURE | Valerie

Tresillian Arts Centre is pleased to feature the work of Valerie, an artist whose practice explores the intersection of technical theory and physical application. Working across oils, acrylics, and mixed media, Valerie’s pieces focus heavily on the capture of light and the visual power of primary and blended colors.

Rather than confining herself to a single discipline, her creative process is defined by continuous experimentation. She regularly integrates diverse techniques, including printmaking and new, contemporary mediums, to challenge and extend her artistic capabilities. The resulting body of work reflects this rigorous investigation of texture, color theory, and light.

Valerie has maintained this professional, multi-disciplinary practice since graduating from Curtin University with a Fine Arts degree in 2002. Her work is held in numerous private and public collections, including the City of South Perth, Town of Cambridge, Trinity College, and Princess Margaret Hospital.

A Natural Response Group Exhibition

Artist Spotlight 🌟 Paul Innes

aul Innes creates abstract paintings that explore and interpret the natural environment. In his work, sensory elements of the outdoors are translated through composition, colour, tone, texture, mark‑making, and the physicality of paint. With this rich visual toolkit, he seeks to develop his own evolving language- a process he describes as a journey across the canvas, uncovering visual truths and revealing traces of discovered life.

His practice is driven by curiosity and the daily pull of the studio. Mixing colours, glazing, and drawing varied lines that interact with passages of thick, warm paint are, for him, reason enough to pull on his paint‑covered overalls each morning. He approaches each new work like a rambler choosing a trusted walking stick, stepping into a landscape of unknown possibilities.

Every painting becomes part of a larger story still unfolding, moving from one chapter to the next with energy, challenge, and delight.

Exhibition open:
Mon - Fri 9am - 4pm
