Wesfarmers Arts and the 2023 AWESOME Festival present Grug and the Rainbow, a Windmill Theatre Co Production

From the top of a burrawang tree to the end of a rainbow.

After a rainy day, Grug heads outside to see a beautiful rainbow striped across the sky. He tries to sneak up on it, climbing hills and mountains in an attempt to reach it… but it was always just out of his grasp.

In a magical adaptation of Ted Prior’s beloved picture books, Grug and the Rainbow sees our grassy little friend embark on an epic adventure to bask in the colours of the illusive rainbow.

A smash hit all over the world, Grug and the Rainbow brings its exquisite puppetry and heart-warming humour back to delight audiences.

2023 AWESOME Festival presents Family Portrait by Barrowland Ballet

Family Portrait is an interactive video installation, combining striking imagery and choreography, capturing an intimate portrayal of family life. With space to roam, the children encounter rabbit skulls, converse with spiders, make war paint with berries and discover the fun of burying their mother in bark.

With humour and candour, the work shares an honest depiction of what family really is - responsibility, joy, balance, intimacy and, most of all, love. Filmed in the splendour of Scotland’s natural environment.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to celebrate the connections Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have to country, and to learn about First Nations cultures and histories.

AWESOME Arts Australia acknowledges the Traditional Owners of country throughout Australia and recognises their continuing connection to land, waters, and community. We pay our respects to them and their cultures; and to elders past, present and emerging.

Hey there, 2021, best you be heading off soon. Don't get me wrong, we've done some cool stuff together, buuuuut, we know you’ll understand if we all choose to move on soon!

In the mean to all of you who helped make this a year in which we got to do some awesome things, despite the ongoing challenges of he pandemic, I thank you. From the performers, to the audiences, and the marvellous organisations we at HeapsGood get to work with, you complete us!

Projects in 2021 have included…

Musical direction and song writing for the world premiere of “Blinky Bill is on the Loose” during the Adelaide Fringe, with a follow up season at the AWESOME Arts in Perth. Thanks to Koala Life and Kobugs. 😀

Producers for Professor Flint- Adventures in Palaeontology and Dinosaur University, including shows for National Science Week, birthday parties and other experiences, at the South Australian Museum. Also, working on the Dinosaur University Patreon subscriber account that you really all ought to subscribe to.

Working on a series of object based videos for the History Trust of South Australia, exploring different perspectives had by different people of the objects. You'll get to see these in the new year.

Delightful interactive experiences at the Art Gallery of South Australia Education, the Adelaide Botanic Garden, and Carrick Hill.

Working with the masters of light, Illuminart on a range of projects, including East End Echoes as part of the Illuminate Adelaide.

At this stage, 2022 is opening with a great deal of activity across the school holidays, here in Adelaide. We await ongoing developments to see how we can ensure these activities are able to continue.

We also begin the year working on two new albums… One about Australian wildlife, the other… An album of duets with Prof Flint, and the character of Mary Anning, telling the story of the remarkable palaeo pioneer from the early 1800s. Stay tuned for all of this, and a whole lot more, as we keep workong on doing the things. And all the best for the new year to you all.

Did you catch Perth Symphony's first ever collaboration with Fliptease at the AWESOME Arts festival last month? So much fun!
Did you see us at the Awesome Arts Festival over the school holidays? We got to engage with the kids in some fun healthy eating activities like colouring in and word games from Superhero Foods HQ. It was a great day out in support of creative learning, community connection and a healthier WA.

Superhero Foods HQ is Foodbank WA’s online resource hub to educate and empower children to make healthy lifestyle choices. Download our free nutrition resources and yummy family-friendly recipes at www.superherofoodshq.org.au

A big thank you to AWESOME Arts for a fantastic festival, Healthway WA for their ongoing support of Superhero Foods and BHP Western Australia for their support of great community initiatives in WA.

The feature-length premiere seasons of ARCOJnr & Snr are done🎈 Thanks to the incredible work of all involved for making this happen, including (L-R): Stage Manager Catherine; Lighting Designer Pete; Sound Designer Tristan; Performer Adam Kelly and Co-writer, Director & our AD James Berlyn; Animation mentor Johanna; our GM Leah; and massive thanks to (not pictured) Animator Ben Hollingsworth. 🙏
Huge appreciation also to AWESOME Arts, State Theatre Centre of Western Australia and DADAA for having us, and every audience member who shared this experience with us. We can't wait to see you again soon & share our next theatrical adventure. 💥
The smell of Australia... that unique and recognisably distinct whiff of eucalyptus... is a delightful feature of our remarkable landscape.

“The Whiff of Eucalyptus” features on the soundtrack of “Blinky Bill is on the Loose”, a show we are so very proud to be a part of, and that recently completed a wonderful season in Perth as part of the wonderful AWESOME Arts Festival.

What an amazing performance! Great way to finish off an amazing festival by AWESOME Arts. We hope everyone had just as much fun as we did.
We had so much fun at the closing party for the 2021 AWESOME Arts festival. We had everyone from 0 - 99 up and dancing! We were joined on stage by Fliptease who performed amazing tricks throughout the performance and left our audience with mouths open in awe! It was an awesome and fun-filled concert for all the family to enjoy!

Matilda is a superstar!

She was one of two special guest contestants for the inaugural Let’s Get Lit(erate) Gameshow at the AWESOME Arts Festival today.

Thanks for joining in the fun (and thanks to your mum for bringing you up all this way this morning!).
"This intimate, uplifting show, at times joyful and at times piercing, delivers something different... an innately human, humanising experience for first timers, and a refreshing change for seasoned theatre-goers". 🙏 Thanks for the rave Seesaw Magazine 💙
