Staying cool in Kununurra! 😎

Our Kununurra Community Engagement Worker and Family Advocate spent last Tuesday staying cool in the shade while attending the annual AGM hosted by the Kimberley Land Council, Aarnja, Kimberley Language Resource Centre and KALAAC. The team spent a few hours sharing information about our services, pamphlets and merchandise with community members and in the Kununurra heat, it’s no surprise the AFLS fans and hats were a hit!

It was a great opportunity to connect with Elders, community leaders, members and local services, with important conversations around Country, community priorities, towns and remote communities, and the programs and projects supporting our people.

A big thank you to everyone who stopped by for a yarn and helped make the day such a valuable community gathering. 🖤💛❤️

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day 🖤💛❤️

In one of Australia’s most remote communities, AFLS team member Frances helped deliver a special event filled with creativity, kindness and connection.
The children got creative with drawings to design their own shirts, filling them with positive and kind words, before finishing the day with some well-earned cupcakes! 🧁🎨

AFLS continues our allyship and commitment to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander rainbow young people, Sistergirls and Brotherboys, and to supporting culturally safe and inclusive spaces where young people feel respected, heard, valued and proud of who they are.

In the office, at school or in the wider community we recognise the importance of listening to the voices and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and standing alongside young people, families and communities to promote respect, inclusion, safety and belonging.

AFLS ON COUNTRY | Dampier Peninsula

Last week, AFLS Broome team members Dan and Johari attended a men’s gathering on the Dampier Peninsula near Beagle Bay Community.

The gathering brought together 15 young men aged between 12 and 30, providing an opportunity for AFLS to share information about our services and have open conversations about the work we do across communities.

Dan and Johari also joined a tag-along tour with local business Trev and the Boys, adding another great opportunity to connect, listen and learn on Country.

The gathering was organised by WAAPI Ltd, an Aboriginal organisation based on the Dampier Peninsula that provides Community Navigator services and support to families living in remote Aboriginal communities across the Peninsula.

It was a positive day of connection and engagement, with AFLS warmly welcomed by participants and the wider group. Great work Dan and Johari!

We look forward to continuing conversations with WAAPI and exploring opportunities to strengthen our relationship and work together to support communities across the Dampier Peninsula.

🌟 Future Leaders in Geraldton 🌟

Last Wednesday, AFLS Geraldton staff Steven and Gavin attended the Stars Foundation Future Forum at Central Regional TAFE.
They connected with around 32 young Aboriginal women in Years 11 and 12, sharing information about AFLS, their roles and the many career pathways available across our organisation.

From Administration and Community Engagement to Solicitors and future CEOs, it was deadly to hear about their career aspirations!
We hope to see some of these future leaders working with AFLS one day. 🖤💛❤️

It’s great to see members of our AFLS Pinjarra team featured on City of Mandurah Mayor Amber Kearns’ page, highlighting the local Women’s Friendship and Yarning Circle.

AFLS is proud to attend and support local gatherings like these, which provide an opportunity for women to come together, yarn, build connections and strengthen relationships within the community.

A big thank you to everyone involved in creating and supporting this welcoming community space, and to Mayor Amber Kearns for shining a light on the important connections being built locally.

They grow up so fast... 🎓⚖️

A huge congratulations to Eloise Holley and Gurpinder Singh, who were officially admitted as lawyers to the Supreme Court of Western Australia, with the honour of being moved for admission by AFLS CEO Corina Martin OAM.

The celebrations continue, recognising the hard work, dedication and commitment that brought Eloise and Gurpinder to this important moment in their legal careers.

It is about having the opportunity and responsibility to use my legal knowledge to advocate for people, particularly those who can face significant barriers when navigating the legal system. 🌿 Learning on Yawuru Country | AFLS Broome

AFLS Broome staff recently took part in Cultural Awareness Training facilitated by local Yawuru man and owner-operator of Narlijia Experience Broome, Bart Pigram.
The session began at a significant Aboriginal site overlooking Roebuck Bay, where Bart shared knowledge of Yawuru culture, Country and history with the team.
Staff then joined Bart for a walk-and-talk through Broome, visiting significant Aboriginal sites and learning more about the stories and history connected to the area.

🧡 Bullying No Way Week | 17 - 21 August 2026 💜 Small acts. BIG impact.

This Bullying No Way Week, AFLS team member Frances in Kalumburu is hosted an event, showcasing how small acts of kindness, respect and inclusion can have a big impact.
Community members were invited to get creative and design a shirt using ‘kind words’ at the AFLS Kalumburu office.

A kind word, including someone, showing respect or speaking up might seem like a small act, but it can make a BIG difference.
