πŸ›¬ alongside The Social Licence Watchdogs in sept, pvi was also busy piloting our 'special envoy' initiative with In Between Time, uk.
🌱 this radically sustainable reimagining of artistic collaboration - about staying, not going, when it comes to overseas travel - aims to reduce the arts sectors' carbon footprint while enhancing access to networks and opportunities. 🌏 first trialled at APAM 2023, special envoy pairs international presenters with local artists to be their boots-on-the-ground at arts markets and industry events.
the 2024 pilot (funded by Creative Australia's intl. engagement fund) enabled aussie artists Cat Jones, Jodee Mundy & pvi Kelli to attend Vitalstatistix' adhocracy festival in yartapuulti/port adelaide as envoys for the uk's Daniel Brine (Norfolk & Norwich Festival), Amaya Dent (LIFT) & Pelin Basaran (Battersea Arts), aided by kaurna country artists Yasemin Sabuncu and Raymond Zada.
it was a treat to co-pilot this program with such excellent humans (including ibt's helen cole), all without a single international flight. stay tuned for more envoy action πŸ”œ

πŸ“£ pvi's new finance manager: sherry quiambao πŸ‘

boorloo-based arts administrator & numbers whiz sherry has lent her expertise to some top australian not-for-profits - including Sensorium Theatre - and is the current Treasurer of Cool Change gallery & performance space (an artist-run initiative).

sherry also happens to be a multidisciplinary artist, in photography, sculpture, video, and installation. you can get to know her & her work by visiting her current exhibition, β€˜veiled in a golden hue’, at Goolugatup this weekend. the work looks at consumerism through sherry's family’s journey, particularly her mother’s migration from the philippines to australia, and how personal dreams meet societal expectations.

the exhibition wraps this sun 22/9, with an artist talk at 11am. after that, say hi when you stop by pvi hq at pica next time... πŸ˜ƒ

this time last week we closed out pvi's debut exhibit at The Art Gallery of Western Australia - The Social Licence Watchdogs - 'invoicing' australia's 5 biggest co2 polluters for their social cost of carbon, and shredding each one's social licence to operate upon failure to pay.

enormous thanks to our bts number-crunchers, legal eagles, web site builders, comms pros, designers, documentarians, invoice deliverers and installers, and other dogs bodies who helped our core creative team bring this project to fruition, as well as the media and pvi who helped spread the word of this most important work in the collective's 25 year history,

from conception 2 years ago to delivering emissions bills (totalling 1.5 trillion) to bhp, chevron, glencore, inpex and woodside this august, not much has changed. the climate crisis only grows more urgent and these companies' debts to society larger by the day.

you can still read all about The Watchdogs work at pvicollective.com and visit the resting place of revoked social licences (the urn sculpted by Abdul-Rahman Abdullah) where it remains on display at AGWA for a limited time.

🌏✊ it may only have taken one morning to deliver australia's five biggest co2 polluters the gigantic invoices for their carbon emissions, but getting the numbers right took The Social Licence Watchdogs 18 months of research, using a scientific formula that first appeared a decade ago (only to be conveniniently buried) - the Social Cost of Carbon (scc).

🦴 in dogged pursuit of climate justice, The Watchdogs' digging revealed the scc amounts owing (reparations for damages to our society and planet) are in the trillions of dollars. thanks, science. now we can confirm how much, society just needs the formula that forces the polluters to pay...

🌏 if you've wondered exactly how high a price our society and planet is paying for fossil fuel companies to carry on business-as-usual, science has a formula that puts a dollar value on co2 emissions. it's called the Social Cost of Carbon. and the numbers are h-u-g-e.
🐾 invoices The Social Licence Watchdogs issued in august to just 5 of the biggest emitters in australia total 1.5 trillion dollars.
✊ although failure to pay meant each entities' Social Licence to Operate got sent to the shredder, it's not too late for these debts to be settled (we'll still take a call if , , , , wish to discuss reparations).

meanwhile, the outstanding invoices remain on display at The Art Gallery of Western Australia til 9 september (alongside the 'remains' of companies' Social Licences, in an urn sculpted by abdul-rahman abdullah). we invite you to get along and see why pvi's debut exhibit at AGWA is such a big deal; if not in person, at pvicollective.com .

🐾 In August, The Social Licence Watchdogs gave Australia's 5 largest co2 polluters 21 days to pay their debts to society (for their social cost of carbon) or each have their Social Licence to Operate revoked.
🚫 Since no reparations were made, all five licences have now been subject to The Watchdogs standard procedure...
⚱️ Their final resting place (created by Abdul-rahman Abdullah) - alongside the giant (8ft tall) invoices for the combined 1.5 trillion dollars in damages the companies still owe our society and planet - can be visited at The Art Gallery of Western Australia - AGWA until 9 September.

πŸš«πŸ“ž Sep 3 was the last day Australia's biggest co2 polluters could call The Social Licence Watchdogs hotline to arrange payment for their debts to society. Sadly none of the entities invoiced for thier Social Cost of C.arbon made any attempt at reparations, so each one's Social Licence to Operate will now be sent to the shredder.
🌏 Imagine if the outstanding $1.5 trillion just these 5 companies owe could be used for climate repair and stabilisation... Our hotline may be closed, but our door is always open for the conversation.
🐾✊ Find The Social Licence Watchdogs work at pvicollective.com & the huge (8ft tall)) invoices, along with footage of their delivery and the urn that will house shredded social licences, on display at The Art Gallery of Western Australia - AGWA 'til 9 Sep.

02/09/2024

🐾 the 'business-as-usual' of our nation's biggest co2 polluters is costing us all. and the numbers are huge.
a formula known as the Social Cost of Carbon apportions a dollar value to the damage each tonne of co2 emissions cause (AU$275).
🌏 using the greenhouse impact value estimator (g.i.v.e.) model, pvi's The Social Licence Watchdogs identified not only the biggest emitters' debts to society (and invoiced them according), but what their carbon paw prints are costing us in specific societal and environmental areas.
πŸ‘‰ see the full scale of these impacts calculated on the giant 8ft tall invoices displayed at AGWA 'til 9 sep or pvicollective.com .
🚨 all entities invoiced in august now have only 1 day left to pay or risk having their Social Licence to Operate revoked.
πŸ“ž The Watchdogs payment hotline is open once more, 10-11am tue, for payment plans to be made (e.g. 6 instalments of 71 billion).
✊️ stay tuned to to find out if reparations are made.

"For its latest playful/subversive art intervention, Mccluskey and fellow pvi artists assumed the roles of Social Licence Watchdogs – replete with fluffy dog ears and shiny police badges – to deliver giant β€œcarbon emission invoices” to the Perth offices of fossil fuel companies Woodside, Chevron, BHP, Glencore and Inpex.
"For McCluskey, the performance was not only an expression of the urgent environmental crises pvi is aware the world is facing, but also a way to open more public dialogue around Australia’s renewable energy economy transition."

πŸ“£ on 14 august, pvi collective (under the guise of invented 'corporate regulator' The Social Licence Watchdogs) commenced delivery of giant (literally, 8ft tall) β€˜invoices’ – totaling hundreds of billions – to Australia's five biggest carbon polluters for the social cost of their C02 emissions...

🐾 First stop, Chevron, whose chart topping emissions record has them owing a lazy 428 billion dollar debt to our society and planet. Not surprisingly, they didn't want their invoice (but noone likes receiving bills, we get it). Doesn't make it any less due though!
