The painting by Heng Qiang (恒 强) shows, among a succession of dry brambles, the troubled face of a marble female figure, which seems to me to recall the moods, as well as in part the features, of the protagonist of the R**e of Proserpina Bernini, a sculptural group that the Artmajeur artist has entirely reinterpreted in another of his works from a previous year, but belonging to the same series of oils.⁠

In fact, Heng Qiang has created, starting from the beginning of 2022, the Destiny series, in which the artist has done his utmost to recreate some of the most famous Western sculptures, which he was able to create after years of pictorial study, during which he delighted in using two-dimensional drawing paper to draw plaster statues, aimed at giving life to a figurative genre between the two arts.⁠

Returning for a moment to Bernini's work, it tells of the abduction of Proserpina by Pluto, god of the dead who reigned underground, in the dark, in the cold and in solitude, who fell in love with the aforementioned girl when he had the opportunity to observe her picking flowers in green Sicily (Italy). Pluto, who knew that her marriage proposal would be rejected by Ceres, the girl's mother, decided, perhaps in a more practical and decisive way, to kidnap her, ingratiating himself with Jupiter's consent. Precisely the scene captured by the Italian sculptor, and partly reproduced by the artist of Artmajeur, immortalized the moment in which Proserpina grabs the girl to take her to the realm of the dead.⁠
